I knew Bergoglio was phony when the MSM fawned all over him right from the
beginning. They kept saying "He's such a humble man... so humble... oh, so
humble." Since when does the MSM give a damn about the Catholic Church?
Bergoglio always supports the crap coming from the WEF. He's part of their
"club," what is often called the "Deep State."

I understand. Unfortunately a lot of Catholics don't understand the
difference between _ex cathedra_ pronouncements and whatever else the Pope
does via "suggestions," or "instructions." Too many take his words for
"Gospel."

God will be the judge of Vigano and Strickland, not Bergoglio.

I didn't know that. I knew that Bergoglio decided starting up new places for
the Latin Mass was _verboten_, I didn't realize he was allowing Bishops to
ban it altogether.

Nothing new about that in Protestantism. Unfortunately for them, Christ
instituted the Church and the necessary Sacraments. Without the priesthood,
you don't have the Sacraments. Non-Catholics can be saved via "Baptism of
Desire," but that's much more difficult and "iffy" proposition than the
security of the Sacraments and the benefits provided by the Church Christ
founded.

What does this Tomorrow's World outfit have to say about Christ's Mother,
the Blessed Virgin Mary?

Father Tooher was a human, not a saint. He liked horses and Irish whiskey.

No, not like that. The church had a three day horse show that included the
Lipizzaner Stallions, dressage, and steeplechases. The parish had a stable
and a horse, 'Ace of Spades'. The good Father may have went to Saratoga
for the harness season. It was only 25 miles away.

Meanwhile, the Dutch Reformed church at the other end of town raised money
with bake sales. In theory they didn't drink or gamble so Las Vegas Nights
were out.

Alive and well, I guess. They sponsored a cornhole tournament last month.
At least they didn't follow the path of the Elks that held drag events and
gay balls for a while. They're remodeling and I don't know what is planned
for the future.

I've seen some of Strickland's videos and he seems like someone you could
sit down and talk to. I'm old enough to remember Fulton J. Sheen on the
TV. Everybody watched his program, Catholic or Protestant. There isn't an
equivalent anymore. EWTN is in its own little world.

Doubtful.I don't have cable and the OTA channels are limited. There was a
Christian channel but it didn't survive the transition to digital. No big
loss since it featured snakes like Benny Hin and Joel Osteen.

I don't think the Masonic Temple (different than a lodge?) was ever much in
Twin Falls, ID. Too much competition from the alternate version, the Morman
church.

This one always was an ugly building. It looks like it was built in the 50s.
I'm guessing they originally met downtown somewhere. The Twin Falls Masons
now meet in a rented building in Jerome.

None of these "fraternal orders" of whatever seem to be doing that well any
more. At least not in the community level.

I worked with a guy in Scottsbluff, NE (when I was going to college) who
hated the Masonic Lodges. His reason, however, was different than mine. His
father had been a loyal Mason for most of his life. When he died they just
abandoned him. (I don't know what it was they were supposed to do, but the
guy's son — the one I worked with — hated the Masons deeply for not doing
it.)

For a while my wife watched the old Sister... Somebody rerun shows on EWTN.
I thought they were pretty interesting. She seemed old school — I think she
was the one who created EWTN.

I was either too young (or we didn't have a TV) when Fulton J. Sheen was on
television. Or maybe it was just something we didn't watch. I don't know. We
definitely weren't Catholic at the time.

Albertson's is convenient and not that much more expensive with my buying
patterns. When Albertson's bought Safeway they had to divest themselves of
the Safeway locations in town. The Safeway stores eventually became Yokes.
They're better for some things but it all evens out. When I was on the
road and went shopping in major markets like LA, Seattle, or Phoenix I was
surprised on how much cheaper everything was. Lucky lasted for a few
months. I didn't see anything to go out of my way and that must have been
the consensus. Bi-LO left a long time ago. One location became the Good
Foods Story, the yuppie haven, and a couple of others became independents
that are pretty good.

When you look at who owns what today you get the feeling there is only one
grocery store that puts on an act like the Dems and Reps.

Insult to injury: There is a B&N brick and mortar a two blocks from work.
I forget what book i was looking for but it was 'we can order it'. I got
it from B&N online, 10% off the in-store price, and free shipping. The B&N
is still there but they may survive by the Starbucks operation under their
roof. I don't know how those Starbucks in another store work. Franchise?

Yeah, that's always been kind of a weak point in their argument. They
claimed to be in unity with the Church (unlike the sedevantists) but that
"unity" seemed pretty tenuous to me. It definitely caused "cognitive
dissonance" in my mind. I think they justified ignoring the Pope's dictates
by using the argument of an "emergency situation." (Probably rightly so.)
Now that the old priests (pre-Vatican ones) have more or less died off, the
Society of Pius X seems a bit less grounded and kind of a "fortress church"
as they call them.

Father Wolfe, who wanted to be a priest but couldn't accept the Vatican II
church and believed the St Pius X was separate from the Vatican, became a
Marine and then a teacher. As soon as the Society of St. Peter broke off
from the SSPX, with the promise of being united to the Pope, he went to the
seminary to become a priest. Of course the Vatican II church broke its word,
they had promised a Bishop (or Bishops) for the Society of St. Peter so they
could consecrate their own priests. Now Bergoglio has even more reneged on
everything promised.

At any rate, Vatican II has made the whole thing kind of a mixed up mess. If
I can find the Latin Mass I try to go to it, even in a Vatican II church.

Exactly. So far, at least, Krogers has been barred from buying Albertsons.
I'm hoping the "merger" (buyout) doesn't go through, especially that
Blackstone and another venture capitalist outfit owns the largest percentage
of their stocks.

We have one B&N in Boise. There used to be two of them. The surviving
location seems to be doing pretty well. But they'll still "order" books for
you. I always tell them I can order my own, if it comes to that.

Well I try to by local, mom and pop, but even though I live in a one horse town I tried to purchase
a simple pulmbind and electrical part, 2 different visits, and I was told "we don't stock this but
we can have it for you in 4 or 5 days and we can't guarantee this".

I look at it in the bigger context. How do religions (political systems,
operating systems, whatever) get started? How do they thrive and grow or
wither away? Some seem very unlikely but make it while others that are no
less true or kooky, take your pick die out.

Indifference is the beginning of the end. The old chestnut is if you don't
stand for something you'll fall for anything. It isn't as divisive a
subject as some but I prefer Linux. If I thought Windows or macOS was just
as good why would I bother? I don't consider setting up Linux a chore but
it's definitely easier to buy a Windows box and be done with it.

I don't think the Catholic Church is withering away because it's a lot more
than what appears on the surface.

I can install and upgrade Linux these days in about 20 minutes. It takes
longer than that to answer or bypass all the setup questions Microsoft wants
you to answer — and to install all the apps that don't come with Windows. And
usually you have to upgrade, so that at adds (probably) another hour at least
for set up. There's nothing at all that attracts me to Windows (and I'm not
crazy about Mac OS either, but I've never had a new Mac machine so I don't
know what the original setup process is or how long it takes.)
