So Posteo still correctly supports POP3. My father may be interested in it.

Both are true, 1) Linux indeed copies features and aesthetics of both
Windows and Mac OS but 2) does a very poor job of getting it right, in my
cases. The lack of consistency is very noticeable, and you'll have
something like the default desktop of Ubuntu which looks incredible...
until you open up a program which doesn't fit with the overall look at all.

I like the look myself, but find that it quickly gets boring. In fact,
that's probably why I like installing Linux and trying something else out
all the time.

I'm aware, but I think I'll just try using the web version of my e-mail
for a while anyway. I'm tired of encountering bugs wherever I go, and the
web interface doesn't seem to have any.

Or so you say. I think Linux Mint looks great and its applications look
fine. But I'm less concerned about the surface features than, apparently,
you are. Maybe if you could come with some examples I would see what you

I just think Windows is ugly. And it didn't get any prettier when it was
upgraded to 11. It reminds me of stale Motel Art and Muzak — or walking into
a bureaucrat's office. Maybe that's why you find it boring, because it is

The main thing that drives me nuts about Thunderbird is that, when I pick a
specific font (and choose that as my default), it reverts back to the
generic font whenever I sneeze, or move my cursor wrong or whatever. I think
Microsoft Word used to do that too. What part of "this is my default font"
don't they understand? It's part of the Microsoft Word disease, where the
retarded program is trying to think for you.

Like Microsoft's own system apps that revert to some old-style GUI rather
than the flat-ass Win 10+ interface?

Or applications that provide their own window decoration no matter what
OS they're on?

I hear you on that one. Though I kind of fixate on Fluxbox (or Xfce4)
and use lxappearance, gtk-chtheme, gtk-theme-switch2,
xfce4-appearance-settings, Fluxbox themes, or qt5ct to get a more harmonious
look).

To be fair, no one uses Windows' system apps. WordPad's lack of use, in
particular, is a shame. It really was more than most people needed.

I alwaus end up missing the Buuf icons. I kind of wish I could use them in
Windows. The fact that my desktop looks like everyone else's (except for
the animated wallpaper courtesy of ArmouryCrate), does a lot to bore me.

No it doesn’t. If the internal drive is not bootable, I can boot off
external media, using a distro purpose-built for this sort of thing, like
SystemRescue.

On Linux, the most common reasons for an unbootable system are easy to
fix.

Weirdly, I remember it being DE-dependent. openbox used the default,
while XFCE uses my bitmap font.

Notepad usually filled that need.. and it was the default. Though a
random fun fact, WordPad is stored in Win32, making it technically a

It's an improvement over 10, I would say, but then it's also yet
another increase on demand of resources, it's funny, 21H2 (the
original version) wasn't anymore bloated than late Win10, but by now

keep bloating until 13 succeeded it, and I'd end up shooting myself or

Yet it is no longer going to be loaded onto computer using new Windows 11
versions. I presure people will still be able to install it through the
Optional System Components or whatever it is called, but it won't be there
by default. You'll need to use the online office.com suite instead. It is
better, but your documents are stored on Microsoft's servers, and you need
to be online to use it... as far as I know.

LibreOffice has the capability to use CSV (i.e. text) files as
a read-only relational database. IOW, complex SQL queries can be
executed on the CSV data tables.

Just create each table as a separate CSV file and drop all tables
into a single directory. Then create a LO database using the directory.
LO will interpret each file in the directory as a table.

It's a simple but powerful way to store data and generate various reports.

Furthermore, the CSV data can be read and written back with LO Calc
which will allow deletions and updates.

In fact, I have chosen this method for my payroll processing program
which is a lot simpler than invoking a humongous SQL database like
MariaDB.

He was talking about WordPad, not Notepad, although the "new" version
of the latter in Win11 is borked, I had to get a third party text
editor that Chris V. recommended (which was better than the classic
Notepad, I must say, more like what I have with Mint now). WordPad is

nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal
protection of the laws.

Dobbs rewrites this, it is invalid precedent. States are
liable for denying needed abortions, e.g. TX.
