I have an asus netbook, ca 2012, which claims you can only add 2GB RAm. But
8GB is $6 and 2GB is $30. Will it just ignore anything over 2GB or can it do
harm? Are there other uses for the "hidden" extra memory, ie "disk".

Without the model number, a specific answer won't be able to be given,
however typically this is limited by chipset and CPU. You could look up
the CPU specs.

The thing is probably gutless, is it worth it? How fast is the memory
bus? Is the battery still serviceable?

I've got a broken Atom netbook here, that I'm considering removing the
motherboard and replacing with a Raspberry Pi (or maybe two).

If the memory connector (and the style of RAM) is the same then I expect
the computer will simply ignore the extra RAM as unaddressed. Wild guess
on my part.

Why not search "Adding more RAM to ASUS (model xyz) notebook" online?

For $6 it is worth the experiment, eh?

Speaking of RAM limits.
A Digital Camera users guide said use 8 GB SD card.
I put a12 GB SD card in it, formated the card and saw it was formatted to 8 GB
in the camera.
