This had bad finals, so no tx and the backup batt was low so replaced it and
new finals now the Tx is ok but noticed a sql problem.

Thought it may be data corruption so I got a Yaesu USB cableset to do the FW
upgrades to make them up to
date. Turns out there are (3) firmwares to update, all with their own
special
procedure:

1) Main
2) Panel
3) DSP

Since there is no DSP chip installed on the main, that FW
is not there to change, that took me some head scratching to figure out
with some help from Yaesu.

I can now hit a repeater with the proper PL but the sql problem is still
there.

In order to hear a noise floor, you have to set sql to zero, then press
txpwr button and changing power levels makes you hear the noise floor. You
can set sql to 1-8 and not hear noise which seems to indicate it works. If
you key the
repeater after setting sql, you will hear it respond back so you are left to
believe
its working, but when you go back several minutes later you can hit the
repeater but never
hear it respond. The txpwr button has to be hit again and that process
repeated but there is some sort of timeout
happening perhaps involving the Dx button which alows you to be able to be
active in
digital, FM and maybe another mode at the same time.

When I hit the Dx button, it dont seem to respond like the manual says it
should, and I hear the ant relay click once which I am not sure is normal.
Complex radio and it uses an SD card behind the detachable front panel for
"cloning" other
radios. If I remove the card, no difference so it dont seem to be altering a
default setting from
the reading of the card, tho on powerup is says "Reading SD" briefly.

There is another feature in the menu called : "extended sql" and at one
point I thought when I turned that off (by default it is on) the problem was
gone
but if you check for the problem within a certain time of pressing the txpwr
button it always seems to work for a while, then something seems to be
alteringthe rx mode I cant figure out....any help appreciated.

The SQL (Signal Quality Limiter) issue you're
experiencing can be quite tricky. Here are a few suggestions that
might help:

Extended SQL Feature: Since you mentioned the "extended SQL"
feature, it might be worth experimenting with turning it on and off to
see if it makes a difference

.. Sometimes, these advanced settings can have unexpected interactions
with other features.

Firmware Updates: Ensure that all firmware updates (Main, Panel, and
DSP) were installed correctly

.. Sometimes, incomplete or incorrect updates can cause issues

Dx Button: The Dx button allows for simultaneous digital and FM
operation

.. If it's not responding as expected, it might be worth resetting the
radio to factory settings and reconfiguring it from scratch.

SD Card: Since you mentioned the SD card, try removing it and checking
if the radio behaves differently. It's possible that some settings
stored on the card might be causing conflicts.
