I think I finally found it!

So my main computer (desktop) started locking up, specifically all
windows unresponsive yet mouse pointer still moved and I could switch to
another desktop and log in. It was irritating.

This computer isn't very old hardware, and has always worked very nicely
(thanks Dell).

I'm running Kubuntu (not my first choice, but I could not get Debian to
boot from USB so I gave up and caved). I'll switch to Debian when I add
this SSD I have sitting right in front of me not connected to anything.

DE of choice is KDE.

Anyway, this locking up issue has been going on for about 1 1/2 weeks
and is a pain. I always run as two users, so I switch between users
regularly (Ctrl-Alt-F*) and this is where the problem would occur. It
would seemingly randomly show the issue upon switching users, either
user, not a specific user.

I thought about, "What have I changed?". I added an external HD,
installed and was running Waterfox, and bought a new wireless mouse.
Waterfox had already caused a very strange UI issue when I set it to
display the toolbar, so I suspected it might be Waterfox.

Stop running Waterfox... Nope, still the issue.

How about the new HD. It's huge, fast and has a large cache. So what?

Disconnect new HD... Nope, still the issue.

Ok, how about the new mouse? It's the same as the old mouse, just a bit
higher resolution, which is why I bought it. Same brand (Logitech), not
fancy at all (US$35.00), just a mouse.

Switch back to old mouse... Yes, the problem has stopped!

I can't see anything in logs to show why/how the mouse may have caused
this issue, but it appears to be resolved. Let's how I'm right (for a
change) :)

I think the correct spelling is KDA... or I did not understand what the
hell you are talking about. Is it about a Desktop choice like Mate,
XFCE etc? You convinced me to put out a disk image of Parrot (Mate)
with i2p. I hope you can use Clonezilla.

I don't know what KDA is, but I'm talking about KDE (K Desktop
Environment):
