You're young. There's still time. ;-)

As much as I enjoy Python, the above is /very/ accurate. There are /a
lot/ of un-funny Monty Python sketches. The group threw pretty much
everything at the wall; they weren't afraid to take chances. They had
a good grip on comedy (and absurdity) and were extremely talented. But
I'd wager that less than 10% of their skits are worth watching today
(50% are tolerable; the remainder being not funny). The show's tagline
was ""And now for something completely different" and they pretty much
lived up to that promise. But different doesn't always equate to good.
But given how much material the group put out, very often it DID.

Still, it has becomes extremely hard to recommend anyone watch the
shows themselves. Even if they find some of the stuff amusing, on the
whole newcomers just won't have fun overall. Partly it's because of
the temporal and cultural distance between now and when the show was
first aired. A lot of what was pioneering in 1969 is rote today; the
team helped to create modern comedy. Without being familiar with the
fairly staid sitcoms and comedy of its era, Monty Python loses a lot
of its comparative brilliance.

Fortunately, the best sketches are preserved and easily accessible on
YouTube. And there's always "The Holy Grail" (which actually was my
entry point to the franchise), which is universally hilarious. It's
probably the best place for newcomers to start.

As for me, I'm off to have a bit of spam egg sausage and spam. I hear
that's not got much spam in it.

You aren't missing anything. I'd describe it as somewhere between
bologna and pork sausage that was boiled and canned pressed into a
block. It's quite popular in Hawaii as it's one of the easier ways to
get meat there. That's spread back to California a bit with the cuisine.

It's not as bad as it sounds, it's fine if you slice and sear it, but
I'd still much rather have fresh sausage. It's probably on the same
level as bologna for me taste wise, just a bit different and much more
expensive, but being canned lasts a lot longer and travels better. It'd
be good for an extended wilderness trip.

I certainly remember it growing up as a child and I believe in the UK
its popularity started in WWII where it was a cheaper, and more readily
available, source of meat. It's waned over the years and I presume a lot
of that is due to the introduction of cheap food. Why buy a can of Spam
when for another £1 you can buy a whole chicken. Admittedly at that
price the chicken we be pumped with as much water as they are legally
allowed to get away with and be generally all round awful.

Spam was a part of the WW2 equivalent of MRE. As Justicar says its not
bad _if_ you cook it right. I have a brown sugar & mustard glaze recipe
that works quite well.

I had a colleague originally from Hawaii who could do magic with spam.
The meat is reportedly quite popular in that state. It's a staple in
many of their dishes, right down to replacing the 'ham' in ham
sandwiches. They occassionally brought in some home-made dishes, and
almost inevitably they included spam as a main ingredient. They were
quite tasty.

That said, I don't really think it was the inclusion of the spam that
made the food so tasty (if anything, I think that using a less
processed meat might have made for an even better tasting meal). But
the use of spam didn't immediately damn the food to the bin; it was
almost always one of the dishes that would be eaten completely.
Properly prepared, spam is quite edible.

But spam alone? I wouldn't recommend it. It's not /horrid/ but it is
definitely an acquired taste, and there are a lot better things to
eat.

Keep in mind that the methods for making spam have improved over the
last 70-80 years and are now aimed at a civilian consumer base that has
a choice in the matter.... ;)
