"Dave the Diver" isn't really a game I'm interested in. An Indie,
retro graphic'd survival-adventure game is a trifecta of 'nope' for
me. And DLC packages that are blatant marketing opportunities to take
advantage (and/or promote) recently-released movies are usually
anathema as far as I'm concerned. But maybe -just maybe- I'll swallow
my principles and consider this one.

'Cause they're making a Godzilla expansion for the game.
https://www.pcgamesn.com/dave-the-diver/free-godzilla-dlc

See, I've been on a recent binge of Godzilla flicks, and been having a
fun ol' time watching 'em all. Sure, the majority of the movies are
just AWFUL (including anything put out by Hollywood) but the
exceptions make all the cruft worth the effort.

(Seriously, if you any interest in the franchise and haven't seen
2016's "Shin Godzilla" yet, stop everything you are doing and go watch
it. Despite some occasionally cheesy CGI, it's probably the best
Godzilla flick since the original).

I'm actually surprised they haven't made more officially licensed
"Godzilla" movies... and none that haven't expanded beyond the "you're
the monster rampaging through the city" mechanics. (There is a fun
Indie game - "Mega"* that has you take on the role of a helpless human
in the ruined city hiding from a kaiju... but its pretty low budget.
Imagine such a game with officially licensed monsters and a budget to
back it up!)

But lacking any other official Godzilla games, I'll just have to make
do with the big lizard's occasional appearance in games like "Dave the
Diver", I guess.

GigaBash has a Godzilla DLC (also an Ultraman one). It was quite the hit
with my kids who both like Godzilla movies.

Yeah, but it's the same ol' thing, innit? You're either Godzilla (or
Legally Distinct But Suspiciously Similar Critter) rampaging through a
city, or you're Godzilla (or LDBSSC) whacking another kaiju and
destroying a city.

It's like the only thing developers can think to do with kaiju is
remake "Rampage" or "King of the Monsters".

I could imagine a 1st person game where you play the kaiju and smash
other monsters and building up etc. Even a 3rd person action game in
the dark souls vein. That might be fun.

I was watching something about Steve Jackson's King Kong the game of the
movie the other day where they had short sequences of that. The
reviewer said they were just the right length, as any more would've been
boring though.

I mean really what more is there to Kaiju though, you beat monsters and
other stuff up. Upgrades and RPG leveling etc. don't make much sense.
Though if they can make a fun souls-like where you play a crab in the
ocean, I guess they could manage for kaiju too.

I really need to figure out this game making things. Lots of ideas, but
don't have the skills.

As any successful writer will tell you, coming up with the ideas is
easy. _Writing_ the idea into a decent story is the hard part.
