By a Google search I noted an old thread here entitled "eCS / OS/2 JFS-compatibility with Linux". Perhaps, then, this question is appropriate here.

I have purchased a refurbished computer w/ Win10 installed. I plan to use DFSee to wipe the drive, so I can partition and install ArcaOS to it. But I would like to first use DFSee to save the current partition information and image the Win10 partition so I can restore it if the computer is faulty and needs to be returned.

I have a 2Tb USB drive formatted JFS under ArcaOS; this would be most convenient, because of the size, to save these files. But my LMDE4 on one of my computers wouldn't recognize it. Will the DFSee Puppy Linux operate any differently so that I could use it to perform this operation on the OS/2 JFS USB drive?

The right way to preserve a Windows partition is to make a windows
Image. That can then be restored from a windows install USB stick.

Otherwise I would change the Hdd and not reuse the one that came with
the machine until I was sure it is working OK.

Barry,
Thanks for the suggestions. Though I at first wasn't enthusiastic about either of them, after some thought I decided the second one was advantageous.

Either your idea as to the first one or mine as to using DFSee - which I would have still preferred since doing a sector-by-sector backup from another OS partition or from a flash drive while the target OS is inactive I believe produces a more-reliable backup - would still have consumed a large amount of one of my USB drives. This might have necessitated me buying an additional USB drive for other future backups.

I then realized it might be less expensive to just buy a new SATA drive, per your second suggestion; since the current SATA is 500 Gb, a new 1 Tb SATA would make your solution even more-economical and beneficial. This would also eliminate the possible problem of troublesome data remaining on the drive since a wipe may only zero out the entries in the Master File Table, as well as the effort and possible mistakes in converting from GPT to MBR and the possible necessity of removing the ESP partition.

Accordingly, I went ahead yesterday and ordered a 1Tb 3.5" SATA, and will save the current one if a return of the machine ever becomes necessary. Thanks for the idea.
