Indeed a contentious US election. It has now
invaded even the Linux groups.

Let's hope that things will go more back to
normal in a couple of weeks.

I doubt it. The "politics" people are relentessly insufferable.

There is also the problem of people bring politcs INTO software
development.

For those of us who use our kill files, we see only one of each of
those threads, and then make the rest go away. So we aren't bothered
by 99% of that spam.

No kidding, but I doubt it will stop. My kill file was
emptied out when Google stopped spamming USENET. I fear
it will start growing quite a bit now.

I can only guess is these posts are showing up here and in
other Linux groups because the toxic posts in the political
groups caused reasonable people to flee. So they are
stuck in an echo chamber. Being narcissistic, they want
to be heard, so they are polluting non-political sites.

Maybe someone with enough time on their hands can create
a moderated comp.os.linux.misc :)

My kill file is definitely seeing some growth in the past few weeks. I too
hope it dies down following the election..

That's it in a nutshell, I'm afraid. The newsgroup equivalent of that
uncle who insists on cornering you for 45 min. at Thanksgiving to rant
about $TOPIC because none of his immediate family will even pretend to
listen to him anymore.

Software development is infested with such people. Since you posted
this, multiple open-source projects and even a standards organization
have banned good developers for purely political reasons. A killfile
is insufficient for dealing with that.
