So where would you have set the threshold for her to use the Slegs Blankes

Mind! I don't mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is

to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade.

I didn't care for Firesign back in the '60s; some things don't improve
with age.

Oh man, I still love a lot of their stuff. Especially the references to
LA ("How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You're Not Anywhere At All?")

Hiya, friends! Ralph Spoilsport, owner and operator of the world's
biggest dealership west of Baalbeck. As you know, we're overdosed again
with lids and kilos. Let's just take a look at some of these fabulous
lids! The LaGuardia Report says this key should be copped for ten thousand,
five hundred dollars, in easy monthly sentences of a year-to-life, and
nobody down. Our complete price to you, including sticks and stems and
seeds, wine-soaked and sugar-cured, completely clean for your smoking
pleasure, the complete price-only what the traffic will allow, in unmarked
bills, delivered to me, Ralph Icebag, in a plain brown wrapper, by a
brown-shoed square in the dead of night! Let's take a taste of this
fabulous Yucatan Blue, scored to you from the sky-blue waters of that
beautiful Mexican bay, hand-picked by naked little froggy native boys in
their tight leather aprons, running through the fields by the sea and the
sea crimson sometimes like fire and the glorious sunsets and the fig trees
in the Alameda gardens yes yes and all the queer little streets and pink
and blue and yellow houses and the rose gardens and the jessamine and
geraniums and cactuses and Gibraltar as a boy where I was a flower of the
mountains yes where I put the rose in my hair like the Andalusian girls
used yes and how she kissed me under the Moorish wall and I thought well as
well him as another and she asked me would I to say yes my mountain flower
and first I put my arms around him yes and drew her down to me so I could
feel her breasts all perfumed yes and his heart was going like mad and yes
I said yes I will yes ... yes ... yes ... yes ... [fading] Yes-s-s-s-s

The last part adapted from "Ulysess" by James Joyce.

Yeah, I tried to read that once too. I kept waiting for the dirty part but
got bored before I found it.

“The sea, the snotgreen sea, the scrotumtightening sea.”

James Joyce

I had a DI who referred to his charges as 'scrotums'. After getting bland
stares he gently asked "Do any of you motherfucking afterbirths of a
Martian gangbang know what a scrotum is?"

Yeah, same here, but for "Finnigan's Wake".

"With her hair in honds tuck up yer part inher." or somesuch.

Related is Philip Farmer's "Riders of the Purple Wage", with ends IIRC
with "Winnegan's Fake!"

"Excretion is the bitter part of valor." (Not you, vallor :-)

Sounds like he needed a blanket party.

We had a manager of whom I noted "He puts the OT in scrum." He'd have us do
stand-ups out in the South Carolina sun and they'd go way long as we sweated.
I believe he enjoyed that.

Our base had a ginormous fat alligator, Charlie, whom they would feed
roadkill. Outside his cage was a good place to contemplate the
military-industrial complex.

One year the mosquitos went hog-wild there. Step outside and you're
covered with them.

Traffic was massively redirected during 9/11.

At the entrance to the base I locked eyes with a young mideast kid
being brought to the brig.

One of those brig detainees claimed he was being tortured by foul
smells... the same smells we all endured from the Westvaco paper
plant. :-D

That's better than feeding the gators with recruits trying to swim off the
island I guess.

The smell of money... I grew up in an area with a lot of paper mills.
They're gone now and so is the money. There was one memorable Boy Scout
Jamboree held on the grounds of Fort Ticonderoga. It was a rainy weekend
like living inside a skunk fart.

2000 miles later the Stone Container plant could get pretty ripe if the
wind was blowing the wrong way. Same story, it's gone along with all the
high paying union jobs.

Hey, it's a service economy! Clean, no nasty smells, and college graduates
pulling shots at Break Espresso or selling boots at REI.

Ours frequently called us pukes, assholes and scumbags, prefixed with
"fucking" as the situation demanded. SSgt. Baker was a sadistic
sarcastic bastard, but fair if that makes sense, and could get pretty
creative.

We were marching to the chow hall one day and another platoon threw a
guy off a second story stairwell. He hit the concrete deck hard and you
knew he got hurt - bad. Baker, without missing a step, turned to us and
said, "That was fucking tight!" "You fucking see that?" "That was
fucking tight." We kept on marching.
