Linux is open source, it's normal to contribute. Not every one is able
to develop. If you can't develop but can help others, you help
developers to focus on their development. So helping others is a way to
contribute.

Windows is the main product of a billion dollars company. Helping
Microsoft to get more money for free is a choice anyone can make. It's
their spare time, they do what they want in their spare time, I have
nothing to say about it. I won't but I won't stop anyone to do it. I'm
not judging.

Still, being able to find enough people willing to help for free so that
they don't need to pay a support and get more money is impressive.

And yet it was considered to be something of a free ride. Which is why
Microsoft put a stop to it.

Actually, their main cash cow is probably Office/365 at this stage.
Windows profits are in decline, if the decreasing investment in its
development is anything to go by.

The way Microsoft divides the segments up obfuscates the matter, dropping
Office and LinkedIn into the same bucket, and doing the same with cloud
services, Windows Server, and SQL Server. Personal computing gets the
Windows OS, Xbox, and Bing. Bing has little market share but brings in a
few billion.

None of those three is looking up. Seems like even XBox is no longer a big
enough market for Microsoft’s own games division, given that it is going
to bring out titles for Sony’s platform as well.

Ok, lots of Russian trolls out and about.

It's entirely clear why the change was done, it's not getting
reverted, and using multiple random anonymous accounts to try to
"grass root" it by Russian troll factories isn't going to change
anything.

And FYI for the actual innocent bystanders who aren't troll farm
accounts - the "various compliance requirements" are not just a US
thing.

If you haven't heard of Russian sanctions yet, you should try to read
the news some day. And by "news", I don't mean Russian
state-sponsored spam.

As to sending me a revert patch - please use whatever mush you call
brains. I'm Finnish. Did you think I'd be *supporting* Russian
aggression? Apparently it's not just lack of real news, it's lack of
history knowledge too.

So what? Like a lot of people I'm surprised by Linus telling everyone
who are looking for explanation that they are Russians' trolls. But it's
unrelated to the fact that using open source means it's normal to
contribute to it. Now, if Linux just switched from open source to
American product, it should be clarified. Or forked.
