Whereas Linux is too much of a headache for my IT needs to continue waste
my time on. As such, it has become my least used OS of the three on the
desktop.

The “payware” in iTunes is the Apple Music subscription, which isn’t
mandatory.
I’ve probably spent less than $50 lifetime in iTunes, all of which was for
buying occasional singles at a buck each: typically only done when I only
want just 1-2 songs instead of a whole album (CD).

Yup, Mac, not Windows.

iTunes was the slick integration into iPods & now iPhones a decade+ ago.
Don’t see a sufficiently compelling reason (eg, features, costs, etc) today
to be motivated to expend the resources to go find another solution that
would be merely as good but without the Apple logo. That’s not laziness but
pragmatism.

I could understand that, it's not as automatically usable as the
commercial platforms.

Well I meant macOS, you pay a lot for the device to use it.

If it works for you, more power to you, I just can't support Apple.
But then, I wouldn't support M$, either. Linux on the desktop,
Android on the phone, for me.

Dobbs rewrites this, it is invalid precedent. States are
liable for denying needed abortions, e.g. TX.

A fair assessment. I have ample other priorities to squander my free time
on.

Depends on one’s opinion of what “a lot” is, and in what context.

Case in point, a Synology 4 bay NAS before adding drives costs the same as
a Mac mini. Might even still be about the same cost as one failed run flat
tire on chrisv’s BMW. A Canon full frame mirrorless SLR (before any
lenses) is more than a Mac Studio. Meanwhile, Macs last for years in
service, yet one can buy both of the aforementioned for the cost of but a
single year of P&C homeowners insurance in Florida.

Building a PC desktop is a very affordable way to get high end gear,
always a better value than something comparable from Apple.

DIY’ing is not as financially worthwhile as it was some years back…

…but that still is pretty much just the domain of those who don’t use
laptops, and of those who enjoy the challenge of jumping through the hoops
of running MacOS on unsupported hardware. Otherwise, you’re stuck with
having to run Windows (or Linux).

Plus this is becoming increasingly retrospective, as legacy DIY is pretty
“Intel x86” based, whereas newer OSs are able to run on ARM architectures.
