They range in price from a dollar each to five to ten dollars each.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=screen+protector+pixel+7

But are they all essentially the same?
Or is there a difference?

If they're different, what do you look for in a screen protector?

Unless you're especially tough on your phone, (or perhaps have a very
cheap one?) they're a waste of money IMO. My Galaxy S10+ is 5 years old,
has never worn one, and has nary a scratch...

I had a Huawei for over 6 years which I kept in a small holster and it
was unmarked when I replaced it by a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10. That got
badly marked within a couple of months by coins in the same pocket (they
were the only metal with which the screen came into contact). It was
supposed to have had a gorilla glass screen.

Every screen protector I've ever bought had to be replaced because it
cracks (usually at the edges, but depending on how the phone is dropped).

I think that's a good thing, as I'd rather the screen protector is
shattered than the screen (for the obvious reasons we all agree on).

I work outdoors with my hands and as a result, I drop my phone a lot.
I mean a lot. More than any of you maybe.

Dropping the phone only a few times a day would be a normal day.
Not every phone drop results in a cracked protector, but some do.

So I remove the screen protector once it cracks & I apply a new one.
The screen protector never breaks unless I've already dropped the phone.

So I go through about five or ten screen protectors during the life of a
phone, but I haven't really counted the number - I'm estimating how many.

Alls I'm wondering is if one screen protector is better than another.
And how to tell.

Specifically what keywords to look for in a phone screen protector shield.

I use the matte protectors to reduce the screen reflection. The
'protection' is of secondary value. They used to be under a buck each,
but inflation has hit everything. The selection of matte protectors is
small and I just buy the cheapest.

Sorry, I don't know. I no longer use any, I just have the phone in a
foldable fake leather cover with a lid. Works perfect for the few times
I drop it :-)

So is your matte protector glass or plastic? I've used some plastic
matte ones before but they got scratched up pretty fast and so I haven't
bothered with those any more. Also my installation sucked and there were
always bubbles.

Whatever Samsung put on my phone now has an ugly gash on it so I'm
thinking of replacing the protector. If I could get a durable matte
protector, all the better.

Plastic. It's 3 years old now, and I have a second one in case of
failure. The guy who replaced my battery put some scratches in it (I
don't hold it against him -- the job was a real bitch), but they seem to
be healing themselves and are certainly not a problem.

The ones I had for previous phones were harder to apply, had more
bubbles, and lifted at the edge. This one went on easily and was
bubble-free. No idea how they do that. Got it from Ebay.
"Professional SCREENGUARD THE GREATEST GUARDER FOR LCD SCREEN" but
they're probably all the same.

My phone is mostly on the table next to my computer. I've dropped it
only once (maybe twice) since I've had it, and that was on a rug.

For the past few phones (back to early Nexus days) I've been using Supcase
holster-type cases and have never had a screen scratch or problem. These
super rugged cases have a built-in thin plastic film that goes over the
screen and although it might get smeary it has never allowed any screen
damage. These films have never interfered with fingerprint readers on
phones which have them. To me, putting a phone in a pocket is just asking
for it.

I don't use 'm, at all. Last time I used a screen protector was for my
HP iPaq h2210. (Good times...)
