Is there a way to get a list of files in the public directory of a
neighbour? I have been trying to send ls via uux to see if it's possible,
but so far that was not successful. Might be just that I don't have the
permissions to do that on the neighbour system though.

Assuming Taylor UUCP, you can run whatever the 'commands' entry in your
system's section in remote's uucp/sys lists. Default is 'rmail', IIRC.
