Charges have been filed against a Minneapolis man accused of sexually assaulting a woman after helping her into her apartment building last month.

The attack happened October 7 on the 1200 block of 31st Street West in south Minneapolis. According to a criminal complaint, Casey Valdez Moses, 22, approached the victim as she carried "an unwieldy item" up the stairs to her apartment building and asked if she needed help.

"Because her hands were full, she accepted help getting the door to the apartment building open and handed the key fob to Defendant so he could unlock the door for her," the criminal complaint says.

When they entered the lobby, prosecutors say, Moses repeatedly asked the woman for sexual favors and punched her in the face when she refused, knocking her to the ground.

According to the charges, he repeatedly punched the woman in the face and attempted to rape her, but when the victim continued to struggle, he stood up, pulled up his pants and left the lobby, leaving the woman on the floor.

The assault was captured on the lobby's surveillance camera, prosecutors note.

Minneapolis police recently used that footage in a public appeal to help identify Moses:

The charges say Moses identified himself in the still photographs in a post-arrest interview; he is currently in custody on another matter.

The victim sought medical care after the attack, "and in addition to other facial injuries," was found to have suffered a broken nose.

Moses is now charged with four counts of felony criminal sexual conduct; if convicted, he faces up to 80 years in prison.
