Given enough time there isn't a piece of software that has been written that cannot be compromised
even disregarding nefarious people inserting rogue code in the software.
Anything networked can be compromised.
Offshoring simply amplifies this exposure.
I've long suspected that China and others have infiltrated the firmware of goodness knows how many
consumer devices and these back doors are just waiting to be activated.
That's what happens when you give up control to others.

That could be illegal if *any* US data was transferred to those coders.

It is a bias amongst software writers that the Users are,
well, just gonna do everything RIGHT. This helps explain
the ENDLESS "buffer overflow" vulnerabilities in Winders
software ... "Why WOULD anyone send more than 80 bytes,
they KNOW better !".

Clue, you read yer TCP buffer one fixed-size block at
a time and COUNT bytes. Less handy, but much more secure.
Been there, done it. Half the fuckin' code winds up being
anti-hack/anti-IDIOT.

Even with Linux/Unix, note that a lot of the nuts-n-bolts
I/O code and such is now "legacy" - writ before people

from higher govt use now. However the sneakware may
be in many MORE things, waiting for the communist
call. About six months ago I reported that it had
been discovered that the chips inside IP cams used
in those gigantic cargo cranes at major ports were
all set to "phone home". In that way, every container
loaded/unloaded could be documented by Them. Seems
this had been going on for YEARS, one snapshot at
a time .........

A couple of years ago I was reading an article about
'shodan.io' - a subscription service that probes
EVERYTHING about EVERYBODY'S computers. With little
trouble I backtracked just a bit on his examples
and was able to see the most-recent results. One
was an HP printer in the UK. Was able to access it
and make it print a test page. I'm not gonna tell
if I could see the recent pages ...

So ... lesson to be learned here ... They can find
ways into things nobody would ever expect. Your
damned copy machine can be spying on your LAN and
storage. Your SmartWatch, Wow ! Anything 'net' is NOT
secure. This is the horrible horrible Truth - the
world we've made without a second thought.

'Shodan' uses dozens of servers and tends to move
the IP addresses around. Can't really be blocked
except through such hyper-anal firewall settings
that it'd be hard to do anything else useful. It
is not the ONLY source of similar info either.

Oh, I leave my copy machine OFF except for the
odd minute or two I have to use it, and never
did set it up for net access despite ALL the
"helpful" utilities that came with it .......

Nothing is safe and secure anymore and even the script kiddie level hackers are learning new
tricks.
Cars with smart key FOB's can be stolen by thieves using an antenna to pick up the communication
between the FOB and the car and then quickly clone the key using a laptop start the car and away
they go.
The better ones stop transmitting if they don't get moved within a short period of time.

Solution: don't leave your keys near the front window of your house and put them in a Faraday box
when not in use.

PHOENIX –David Michael Hanson, 41, of Phoenix, was arrested on Wednesday
for making online threats against the President and Vice-President.
Hanson was charged by Federal criminal complaint on Tuesday with five
counts of Threats Against the President and Successors to the Presidency
and five counts of Interstate Communication of Threats.

The complaint alleges that in November and December of 2023, while
living in Arizona, Hanson used a social media platform to post threats
to murder the President and Vice President of the United States. On
November 19, 2023, Hanson posted online a series of threatening
statements including one that stated, “#joeAndKamala I’m asking you to
resign on Monday your alternative is death brutally murdered.” After the
U.S. Secret Service spoke to Hanson and warned him that it was a Federal
crime to post such threats, on December 23, 2023, Hanson posted another
series of similar threats aimed at the President and Vice-President.

Each count of Threats Against the President and Successors to the
Presidency carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of
up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Each count
of Interstate Communication of Threats carries a maximum sentence of
five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of
supervised release.

A complaint is simply a method by which a person is charged with
criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is

PHOENIX –David Michael Hanson, 41, of Phoenix, was arrested on Wednesday
for making online threats against the President and Vice-President.
Hanson was charged by Federal criminal complaint on Tuesday with five
counts of Threats Against the President and Successors to the Presidency
and five counts of Interstate Communication of Threats.

The complaint alleges that in November and December of 2023, while
living in Arizona, Hanson used a social media platform to post threats
to murder the President and Vice President of the United States. On
November 19, 2023, Hanson posted online a series of threatening
statements including one that stated, “#joeAndKamala I’m asking you to
resign on Monday your alternative is death brutally murdered.” After the
U.S. Secret Service spoke to Hanson and warned him that it was a Federal
crime to post such threats, on December 23, 2023, Hanson posted another
series of similar threats aimed at the President and Vice-President.

Each count of Threats Against the President and Successors to the
Presidency carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of
up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Each count
of Interstate Communication of Threats carries a maximum sentence of
five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of

A complaint is simply a method by which a person is charged with

PHOENIX –David Michael Hanson, 41, of Phoenix, was arrested on Wednesday
for making online threats against the President and Vice-President.
Hanson was charged by Federal criminal complaint on Tuesday with five
counts of Threats Against the President and Successors to the Presidency
and five counts of Interstate Communication of Threats.

The complaint alleges that in November and December of 2023, while
living in Arizona, Hanson used a social media platform to post threats
to murder the President and Vice President of the United States. On
November 19, 2023, Hanson posted online a series of threatening
statements including one that stated, “#joeAndKamala I’m asking you to
resign on Monday your alternative is death brutally murdered.” After the
U.S. Secret Service spoke to Hanson and warned him that it was a Federal
crime to post such threats, on December 23, 2023, Hanson posted another
series of similar threats aimed at the President and Vice-President.

Each count of Threats Against the President and Successors to the
Presidency carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of
up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Each count
of Interstate Communication of Threats carries a maximum sentence of
five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of
