ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR/Gray News) - An Illinois man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges after authorities in Rockford said he spread HIV to a sexual assault victim.

WIFR reports Steven Grimes, 31, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and criminal transmission of HIV.

The investigation began in May 2019 when Rockford police were called to a medical office after receiving a report of sexual assault.

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross said the assaults began as far back as 2005 when the child was 13. She is asking anyone who may also have been a victim to come forward with information, as prosecutors believe there could be more than one victim.

Grimes faces up to 60 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 11.

Janesville police on Thursday arrested a suspect in a double homicide in Rockford, Illinois.

On Wednesday, Janesville police received information that the suspect, Shyron S. Henderson, 26, was in Janesville, Lt. Mark Ratzlaff said in a statement.

On Thursday, several places associated with Henderson were put under surveillance and Henderson was seen, Ratzlaff said.

The surveillance continued until Henderson got into a vehicle alone, the vehicle was blocked in by a marked police car and several officers conducted a high-risk stop. Henderson was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Rockford detectives for interviews, Ratzlaff said.

Henderson is facing warrants in Winnebago County, Illinois for failure to appear armed violent assault and murder with intent to kill or injure, Ratzlaff said.

Columbus County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that they had arrested a man on Friday wanted for allegedly committing felony statutory rape of a child by an adult.

James Patrick McCormick, 29, with a last known address of Pine View Drive in Evergreen, was arrested on the charge.

The arrest came after CCSO released a statement Thursday seeking to find McCormick.

“In July 2020, a Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responded to Columbus Regional Medical Center in reference to a rape. An 11 year old female reported that she had been raped multiple times, on multiple different occasions, by a known individual, James Patrick McCormick. The incidents occurred in Whiteville. Additional incidents were reported to have occurred in Bladen County,” the Thursday afternoon CCSO statement said.

Dontay Reese

A Minnesota man arrested after a woman told deputies he held her captive appeared in court Monday.

Dontay Reese, 36, is charged with six counts, including kidnapping and sexual assault. It happened earlier this month. According to the criminal complaint, the victim met Reese the night before, and said he would give her a ride home in the morning. That's when Reese took the woman hostage in his car and told her that he was going to take her to Atlanta to "pimp her out or sell her." The complaint says the victim tried escaping multiple times.

Deputies say they received word that a Reese hit the woman and put her into a vehicle and drove off on I-94. Later on, the Wisconsin State Patrol found the vehicle empty along the interstate. Shortly after, searchers found the two in a wooded area.

The woman said Reese tied her up, raped her multiple times, used cocaine and made the victim use cocaine too.

Reese remains in the Jackson County Jail on a $325,000 cash bond.

Before a St. Paul police officer shot and wounded a man, the 31-year-old livestreamed himself sexually assaulting a former girlfriend and threatening to kill her, according to criminal charges.

Police searched for Joseph Javonte Washington, of Apple Valley, on Saturday after he forced the woman to drive to St. Paul and caused the vehicle to crash, said the criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Dakota County District Court.

Officers discovered Washington hiding in a dumpster in an alley in the area of Rice Street and Magnolia Avenue on that night. Police tried to talk him into coming out and used Pepperball, which is similar to pepper spray.

When Washington climbed out and ran toward officers, they “deployed Tasers and a K9 in an effort to stop him, and one officer shot the man, who was struck at least twice,” police said in a statement early Sunday.

Police Chief Todd Axtell said Tuesday, as he released body-camera footage, that the man was naked and unarmed at the time. A law enforcement source says Axtell terminated the officer.

CHARGES: ATTACK BEGAN IN LAKEVILLE
The Dakota County Attorney’s Office charged Washington, who remained hospitalized Wednesday, with five felonies.

A woman reported to Lakeville police on Saturday that her daughter called her from an ambulance on the way to the hospital and told her mother that Washington attacked her, according to the criminal complaint. They had dated on-and-off for two years.

Officers talked to the woman at the hospital and she reported she returned to her Lakeville residence on Saturday night and found Washington inside. They started talking and Washington began using her phone without her permission, according to the complaint.

When she asked for her phone back, Washington punched her in the face and she fell to the ground, hitting her head on a television stand, the complaint said. He punched her again and dragged her by her hair to the bathroom, where he demanded she perform a sex act on him.

The woman tried to leave the bathroom, but he slammed the door, according to the complaint, and pulled a knife and threatened to stab and kill her. She recognized the knife as being one from her own kitchen set.

Washington forcibly removed her diabetic pump and forced her to perform a sex act on him, while repeatedly punching her and telling her “she was going to die tonight,” the complaint said.

During the sexual assault, he used the woman’s cellphone to livestream video on her Facebook and Snapchat accounts, according to the complaint. She received multiple text messages from friends, telling her about the broadcast.

Police received copies of the videos, during which Washington can be heard threatening to kill the woman and she can be heard crying, according to the complaint. She had a visible injury to her eye in the video.

FACES 5 FELONY COUNTS
Washington eventually pulled the woman out of the bathroom by her hair, took two knives from the kitchen and dragged her into the garage, according to the complaint. He demanded the woman get in her car and start driving, telling her to speed and not stop for red lights. He threatened to stab her if she crashed and punched her every time she tried to slow down, the complaint said.

Washington had a knife at her throat at times while she drove and eventually grabbed the steering wheel, the complaint said, causing a crash at Maryland Avenue and Rice Street in St. Paul.

He ran and the woman was initially unable to get out of the car because her door was stuck, but when she could get out she flagged down a motorist for help.

Police searched the woman’s apartment and found knives on the floor and evidence of an altercation in the living room. There were blood droplets in the living room, near the bathroom and in the bathroom.

Washington is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct causing fear of great bodily harm, first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a dangerous weapon, first-degree criminal sexual conduct causing personal injury, kidnapping and second-degree assault.

An attorney for Washington wasn’t listed in the court record.

Minnesota court records show that Washington pleaded guilty to violating an order for protection and interfering with a 911 call in separate cases in 2017, burglary in 2009 and 2017 cases, possessing a gun by an ineligible person due to a conviction for a crime of violence in 2010 and fleeing a peace officer in 2009.

In the 2017 burglary, Washington was accused of breaking into the residence of his estranged wife, who had filed for divorce and had an order for protection against him.

She grabbed her two small children, saying she was fearful of what Washington would do to her, and climbed out a window, according to the criminal complaint. With her younger child on her hip, Washington “forcefully grabbed/held” her as she tried to escape, the complaint said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles woman has filed a lawsuit alleging that Metro Boomin, a Grammy-nominated producer who has worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B, raped her in 2016 and she became pregnant from the attack.

The producer’s attorney calls the accusations false and said the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court is “a pure shakedown.”

Vanessa LeMaistre, 38, says in the lawsuit that she became friends with Metro Boomin, whose legal name is Leland Wayne, after the death of her 9-month-old son. While visiting him in a recording studio months later, she blacked out and woke on a bed to find Wayne raping her, the lawsuit alleges.

She learned she was pregnant from the attack a few weeks later, the suit says.

An attorney for the 31-year-old St. Louis-born producer immediately denied the allegations.

“This is a pure shakedown. These are false accusations,” Lawrence Hinkle II said in a statement Wednesday. “Mr. Wayne refused to pay her months ago, and he refuses to pay her now. Mr. Wayne will defend himself in court. He will file a claim for malicious prosecution once he prevails.”

Wayne curated the soundtrack to “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and co-produced most of the songs on the album. His 2022 album “Heroes & Villains,” featuring contributions from John Legend, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott, was nominated for a Grammy for best rap album. He has also worked with Future, Kendrick Lamar, Offset, 21 Savage, and A$AP Rocky.

LeMaistre said in the suit that she met Wayne in the spring of 2016 at a party in Las Vegas and in the months that followed they met up several times and she “believed that they had bonded over the ability of music to help people in their darkest moments.”

Around September, she visited him at a California recording studio where she was given a shot of alcohol and took half a bar of Xanax.

“The next thing Ms. LeMaistre can recall is waking up on a bed in a different location with Wayne raping her and being completely unable to move or make a sound,” the lawsuit says. ”She was in and out of consciousness for an unknown amount of time but awoke again at some point to Wayne performing oral sex on her.”

At no point was she able to consent, the lawsuit says.

She learned she was pregnant a few weeks later, and there was no question that the child was Wayne’s, the suit says. She had an abortion soon after.

The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they have been sexually abused unless they come forward publicly, as LeMaistre has. She is named in the lawsuit and consented to being publicly identified through her attorneys.

Her lawsuit alleging sexual battery and gender violence seeks damages to be determined at trial.

A Rice Lake man faces penalties that could range up to 80 years in prison and $200,000 in fines after being charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child under age 16, according to Barron County Circuit Court documents.

A complaint filed Monday, Feb. 1, identified the defendant as 22-year-old Ian George Bednarek, of rural Rice Lake.

DECATUR — A Decatur man was arrested Monday in connection with charges that he beat and raped a woman who refused to have sex with him, police said. The man is also accused of splattering the inside of the woman’s mobile home with condiments before the attack.

A sworn affidavit from Decatur police officer Brian Oros said patrol officers found the 26-year-old victim “with several golf ball-size swell marks on her forehead, as well as a half dollar-size bruise on her chin, consistent with being punched in the face multiple times.”

The affidavit said the assault happened around 4 a.m. July 3 but the man accused of the crime, Trayon S. Jones, 21, was not arrested until Monday afternoon after police said they found him at an address in the 2000 block of East William Street. Detective Sgt. Steve Carroll said Tuesday that police had been searching for Jones since the crime happened and had finally tracked him down.

Jones was jailed on a preliminary charge of aggravated sexual assault; preliminary charges are subject to review by the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Writing in the affidavit, Oros also noted the dripping condiment mess in the victim’s home: “While at the crime scene I observed what appeared to be several varieties of food condiments thrown/spilled all over the entire trailer (walls, furniture, etc),” Oros said.

The victim told police Jones had created the condiment mess and and then punched her repeatedly after she refused his demand for sex. The affidavit does not describe the nature of Jones' relationship with the victim, or if there was any relationship.

The victim is quoted as telling police that, after he punched her, Jones pulled her pants off and raped her, although she said she managed to free herself during the ordeal by “kicking him off of her,” according to Oros.

Jones is free after posting $50,000 bond with the condition he stays away from the victim. He is due to be arraigned Oct. 26.

I will look more closely at the polls but I'm not expecting them to,
in all honesty, reveal the winner. National polls are a dead heat,
but I will examine the state-by-state ones.
