Two more reasons to not vote for Trump in 6 days.

65) Every budget Trump proposed included cuts to
Social Security and Medicare.

66) Trump tried and failed to repeal the Affordable
Care Act, which would have resulted in 20 million
Americans losing insurance. And striking down the
ACA’s protections for the roughly 130 million people
with preexisting conditions could have driven up their
insurance premiums or led to a loss of coverage.

Yes, of course it listed Trump's tax plan too.

In fact, Trump's tax plan numbers are still quoted above.

They show that his plan is to screw everyone who earns <$360,000/year
with higher taxes, to create yet another tax cut for the richest 1%.

FYI, here's the original cite again, so that you can snip it again as
you pretend that you didn't see or read it:

<https://itep.org/kamala-harris-donald-trump-tax-plans/>

In the meantime, start tightening your belt for when Trump's 2017 TCJA
rates expire 14 months from now, because no matter how hard you may try
to blame that hike on anyone else, the GOP & Trump own absolutely 100%
of this 3-4% hike in marginal income tax rates.

Oh, and your Standard Deduction allowance? It will be cut in half too,
from roughly $30K MFJ to $15K...and once again, that's 100% GOP+Trump.

I am noting huge challenges -- things that the MAGA crowd has added to.

I think as a country we can tackle all of those. Will we ever reach
perfection? Of course not. But we can improve.

It is not in respond to my ideas. But, sure, I can tell it is in respond to
your thoughts that you are attributing to me. I was trying to be nice about

But he's right. We've had problems building since Reagan. Harris won't fix a
lot of them; Congress won't let her. Trump will try to make them worse (can
you say "Trump Recession"?), and it's not clear that Congress will prevent
that.

For a "first-world" country, we're pretty backward.

"in respond to" — you stupid fuck, Snot Michael Glasser. The expression is "in
*response* to"; "in respond to" is illiterate bullshit.

Stop cross-posting your illiterate bullshit replies to to computer-related
newsgroups, asshole.

Of course we can, but not with MAGAs and their Nazi friends.

#nevertrump

Two more reasons to not vote for Trump in 6 days.

65) Every budget Trump proposed included cuts to
Social Security and Medicare.

66) Trump tried and failed to repeal the Affordable
Care Act, which would have resulted in 20 million
Americans losing insurance. And striking down the
ACA’s protections for the roughly 130 million people
with preexisting conditions could have driven up their
insurance premiums or led to a loss of coverage.

Sadly you largely repeat yourself.

But even when you include MAGA/Nazi types, the polls show the people
*generally* want things the left champions.

No, he's not right. Our standard of living isn't lowered, it's just not rising
as fast as we like. There are a couple of items that are untenable and need
immediate attention like housing, health and education costs. We need to deal
with these.

What I notice is those of us on the left are not afraid to call each other out
when we disagree. Interesting how rare that is on the right.

It is more nuanced than that. The standard of living has gone up in terms of
technology, but things like income inequality, affordable housing, and
healthcare costs are going in the wrong direction. Wages have not kept up with
productivity.

Absolutely.

Ah, some agreement. But...

Shoveling taxpayer money effectively to billionaires hurts a lot of people.
An extractive economy is one reasons why nations fail. The standard of living
of some people at the margins is maintained only by side gigs.

That's what surprises me so much. When you poll strictly on issues and
solutions, the electorate comes down on the Democratic side the great majority
of the time.

So why do they keep voting against their own interests?

Are the Dems really that bad at messaging?

Right. The US public, IN GENERAL, wants universal health care or at least a
strong public option, the want stronger gun laws such as universal background
checks and limits, they want choice in terms of reproductive rights, they want
illegal immigrants to have a chance (though limit the numbers), they want
higher taxes for the rich and stronger safety nets. But this does not happen.

They do so less than I would like, but they often do... look at the election
where Trump won. OK, Clinton was not a great candidate... a horrible one...
but even she got a LOT more votes than did Trump. Something nearing 3 million
votes.

> Are the Dems really that bad at messaging?

People respond to emotion more than logic... and the Republicans push fear and
blame. Too many people get sucked into that. It is sad.

*applause*

Now, I don't see leftists calling out leftists all that much, but I do see
centrists doing it and it's one of the reasons we're so unpopular in social
media. We tend to logical, civil discussion so we get canceled by rightists.
For example, I take a bit of pride in being killfiled by some of the most ardent
rightist, Trumpers around.

Otoh, I don't recall any leftists complaining much when I call them out though I
have noticed Siri never responds to me.

That Cape Cod just kicked in. Time to start some music!

The reason is greed. It's a slow evolution from the Promise of America to the
days of the Lord of the Manor. After WWII and throughout the sixties the top
marginal rate ran above 60%. In 1960, at the end of the Eisenhower
administration, it was 91%. Art Linkletter, while defending the Vietnam war,
once said that he paid 87¢ on every dollar he earned and, as an American, was
proud to do it.

Today's wealthy pay final effective rates less than that of a typical middle
class wage earner.

That isn't fair.

Yes, the Top 1% pay an extraordinary percentage of the taxes but they earn an
extraordinary percentage of the income. The left is mistaken in targeting the
entire top tier as a group. It would be more accurate to target the Trumps,
Bezoes and General Electrics of the country who earn plenty but are given, by
LAW, ways to not pay tax on it.

Many top earners are escaping any taxation through various means. The really
ironic part is how much they're spending on accountants and lawyers to avoid tax
bills.

Yes, the tax code needs to be flatter AND more fair. It needs to contain FAR
fewer exceptions and should be designed to favor graduating from one income
class to the next one up rather than favoring only the top income classes. A
nation with hundreds of thousands of multimillionaires would be economically
stronger than a nation with mere hundreds of multibillionaires.
