Kamala Harris made Donald Trump look old, angry, incoherent and crazy in
debate

In the world of Donald Trump, there are places in America where babies
are born and then executed due to lax abortion laws, and where immigrants
in Ohio eat cats and dogs and other pets.

Trump�s fictional apocalyptic vision collapsed on Tuesday night under the
spotlight of a neutral presidential debate, moderators who pointed out
lies and a capable adversary in Kamala Harris.

�Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people,� Harris said about a 2020
election that Trump still does not accept. �He is having a difficult time
processing that.�

If a successful presidential debate reveals the clear differences between
competing candidates, Tuesday night�s event in Philadelphia was an
unmitigated victory for the American people thanks to challenging
questions and the responses by both Trump and Harris.

It was the same Donald Trump that showed up to debate Joe Biden this
June, an angry former office holder whose comments were an unfortunate
combination of insults and lies. It took a historically awful performance
by a deteriorating Biden for the aftermath to not be all about Trump.
That is not about to happen this time around. Kamala Harris proved to be
more than Trump�s match on facts, command of subject area and the human
temperament necessary to hold the nation�s highest office.

Trump threw everything he had in his arsenal of venom. He called Harris a
Marxist. That she has destroyed the country. That she hates both Israelis
and Arabs. That she pays voters to attend her rallies. That she wants to
do transgender operations of illegal aliens who are in prisons. And that
those undocumented aliens who are not in prison have arrived here from
mental institutions and insane asylums, but they are somehow smart enough
to take jobs from Blacks and Latinos. And as violent crime is rising here
(it is not), it is falling in the rest of the world as a result (it is
not).

There is no rationalizing any of this.

Harris listened closely. She shook her head no, nearly incessantly, as
the onslaught of lies unfolded. She would laugh at times. She was never
rattled.

It�s a shame that analyzing a debate is akin to revisiting a crime scene.
Some substantive moments came and went. Harris is concerned that Trump�s
plan to saddle huge tariffs on imported products from China and other
countries will increase the prices of these products in this country,
akin to a sales tax. Trump, living in his personal bubble, somehow
believes that other countries will shoulder all of the pain.

The clearest difference of all was Trump�s worst issue, abortion, and it
is more so now than ever before. Trump�s central lie, an oldie but a
goodie, is that �every legal scholar, every Democrat, every Republican,�
wanted to repeal the federal right to abortion (with limitations)
affirmed by the Supreme Court 51 years ago in its Roe vs. Wade decision.
In appointing a court that repealed a woman�s right to choose, �I did a
great service in doing it,� Trump said.

Harris said she would �proudly sign� a bill to reaffirm a federal right
to choose. Trump repeatedly ducked the question. �The government and
Donald Trump certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with
their body,� she said.

If a Republican was running for president who lived in reality and stuck
to a platform to improve economic affordability in this country and
better manage the borders - two weaknesses of the last four years for
various reasons - this could have been an important battle of ideas this
campaign season.

But that is not what is happening, and Tuesday night revealed it for
anyone who wished to see it. What should have been a debate of ideas was
lost in a sea of lies and self delusion. Donald Trump got clobbered
Tuesday night in the debate that actually happened. Harris proved her
presidential mettle and then some. But it was Trump who did himself in by
saying things so outlandish, the moderators in real time had to remind
viewers of the actual truth. Trump�s campaign is on a collision course
with political suicide.

Cops have released bodycam footage of the immediate aftermath of a fatal, horrific crash in downtown Miami last month.

According to a police report, at a little before 7 a.m. on Aug. 10, 24-year-old Maecee Lathers was high on drugs and speeding her white 2018 Mercedes south on North Miami Avenue.

The social media model reportedly blew the red light at Eighth Street, then put her foot on the gas at “100 percent acceleration,” driving nearly 80 mph on a street with a posted speed limit of 30 mph, says the report.

Lathers’ out of control sedan slammed into a black 2020 Range Rover traveling west, which smashed into a silver 2012 Suzuki, driven by Abraham Ismael, on the way to work. Also in the car was his fiancée, Juanita Hernandez, and a friend, Jesus Rubio.

Ismael, father of a teenage son, was extricated from the wreckage and died at Jackson Memorial Hospital; Rubio was pronounced dead on the scene; and Hernandez was badly injured with “facial and arm lacerations.” The 23-year-old man in the Range Rover sustained minor injuries.

Bodycam shows the chaos moments later as first responders arrive with a stretcher. You can hear Lathers, who is on the ground, topless and breathing heavily, her hands cuffed behind her. At one point she screams in pain at the top of her lungs.

Police said Lathers — driving with a suspended license — had to be prevented from walking away from the accident by bystanders. She also was making no sense when asked questions and claimed to be a time traveler.

“Stay like that,” an officer tells her. “Look down!”

“She’s on tusi,” says another officer, referring to the party drug also known as pink cocaine. “She’s like, Oh, I’m from the future.”

The defendant, who has a Miami Gardens address listed on the arrest affidavit, initially posted bond and was placed under house arrest.

But on Tuesday, Lathers was handcuffed in court and sent back to jail after prosecutors tacked on two DUI manslaughter charges.

According to state attorneys, the toxicology report revealed a variety of drugs in the defendant’s system, but no alcohol.

The University of Albany alum now faces 10 criminal charges, including vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license.

Lathers’ Instagram, whose bio calls her an “entrepreneur,” is still public. One post shows her posing in front a white Mercedes that looks similar to the one involved in the deadly crash. The comments are turned off.

SAN DIEGO – Former Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow II has expressed remorse for his actions and declared that he is committed to being a “productive person” as part of his latest bid to get his prison sentence reduced according to new state criminal justice reform laws.

The former NFL first-round draft pick also described his life in prison and cited previous trauma he suffered, including sexual abuse as a youth, an estimated 100 concussions in his football career dating to high school and a motorcycle accident in 2005 that led to depression.

He put this in writing to go along with a new petition filed last week with a state appeals court in California, a copy of which was obtained by USA TODAY Sports. He also has hired a new lawyer to work on it after being denied by a Superior Court judge in 2023, when Winslow didn’t have counsel and submitted his arguments in handwriting.

“I am committed to being a productive person when released, and I will always feel remorse for what I did to the victims in my case,” Winslow said in a signed declaration attached to his new habeas corpus petition.

What did Kellen Winslow II do?
Winslow, 41, was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2021 after being convicted of horrific sex crimes against five women in San Diego County, including the rape of a woman who was unconscious in 2003 and the rape of a homeless woman in 2018. All of the crimes for which he was convicted came against women who were disadvantaged, incapacitated or in their mid-50s or older. One victim was a hitchhiker he picked up in 2018. Another was a 77-year-old woman at a local gym.

His new petition cites state laws that would have changed the sentencing analysis in his case, leading to a more favorable sentence, according to his petition.

“Petitioner (Winslow) is not asking to be released from prison at this time, but he does meet the criteria for relief under AB 124, given the trauma (brain damage) he received in his life of football, physical and sexual abuse he was subjected to as a child, and the impact of his debilitating motorcycle accident,” said his new petition submitted by Patrick Morgan Ford in San Diego.

What is Kellen Winslow II’s goal here?
Winslow, who also starred at the University of Miami, has been incarcerated since March 2019 and currently resides at a state prison in Norco, Calif. He is not eligible for parole until September 2028, according to state records.

Winslow “asks this court to grant his writ and return the case to the trial court so that he may be sentenced in accordance with the new laws,” his new petition states. “He now presents his arguments (with facts not available originally) to this court by way of a petition for a writ of habeas corpus.”

The petition cites AB 124, which became law in 2021. It is intended to help criminal defendants who previously experienced “psychological, physical, or childhood trauma, including, but not limited to, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or sexual violence.”

AB 124 requires the court to impose a lower term of sentencing if the defendant has experienced such trauma, unless there are aggravating circumstances. The petition also argues that plea agreements are not insulated from legislative changes designed to lower sentences.

In February 2021, Winslow had agreed to his 14-year sentence in a negotiated plea deal with prosecutors at the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. That office declined comment on Winslow’s new petition.

What trauma did Winslow cite?
To establish the law’s relevance to his own case, Winslow cited various forms of trauma he’s experienced going back to childhood.

He mentioned his football career, during which he earned about $40 million. He played high school football in San Diego, where his father Kellen Winslow Sr. was a star tight end for the San Diego Chargers before also citing issues with brain injuries.

"I probably suffered 100 concussions during that time, but I knew not to report them because a reported concussion would show you were 'damaged goods' and that could be held against a player when negotiating a contract,” Winslow II said in his declaration.

He said each collision was “like a small car accident” that led to migraine headaches and depression.

He said his motorcycle accident in 2005 led to depression.

“I started to become a different, and less caring person during that time,” he wrote.

He then described childhood issues that affected him and said he was sexually abused by two relatives.

“I feel this somehow played a role in my own sex crimes in the present case,” he wrote.

What does Winslow say about life in prison?
Winslow previously had been reluctant to express guilt or remorse. When USA TODAY Sports asked him last year about the victims, he said he couldn't “speak to my innocence right now.” After previously insisting he was innocent, he also hesitated to plead guilty in 2019 but did so to avoid the risk of life in prison.

In his new declaration, he said his prison life includes reading the Bible and self-help books, receiving counseling and also running and training for marathons with other inmates.

“My goal was to become a better man and one day reunite with my wife, who stood by me for a long time, and my two children,” Winslow wrote.

His wife filed for divorce in 2019 after a jury first convicted him of some charges.

His petition notes that other inmates have sent letters expressing their gratitude to him for his help. One called him a “positive light in this place.” Another credits Winslow II with his drug addiction recovery and wrote that “the Creator sent him to me to better myself.”

“He is actively programming in prison and is described by the director of his Anger Management class as a role model to other participants in the group,” his petition states.

It’s not clear when the court will take up his case.
