For two years, I’ve been saying that Michelle Obama wasn’t going to run for president. After her appearance on Tuesday at the Democrat National Convention, I feel vindicated. Polls consistently have shown that Michelle is a more popular national figure than Donald Trump, causing many conservatives to turn her into some kind of omnipotent bogeyman. They have feared her more than any other single candidate in the 2024 election. Without ever holding office or going through the primary process (which, to be fair, Democrats have decided they no longer need), Michelle could simply announce she’s running for president and be coronated.

But as her speech last night to the DNC proved yet again, Michelle Obama is merely another champagne socialist, more interested in preaching to you about how you should live than in being held accountable for providing any real work to make that happen.

How was I so sure? Well at first glance, there are the external signs. She didn’t lose the menopausal weight gain to show she was rested and ready for the grueling campaign. She didn’t write a new book or engage in a national “listening tour” to pretend to care about the ways in which her fellow Americans are suffering under the Biden/Harris economy. Most importantly, she didn’t cut her hair. You know, the natural braids that we “racist” white voters who elected her husband to two terms as president just weren’t ready to handle.

It’s been obvious all along she had no interest in being president. We have known this woman since 2008. She has always hated politics. She hated the grubbiness of gladhanding for votes, dislikes the American flag, hated living in the White House built by slaves, and still burns with resentment over the fact that she wasn’t as smart as the other kids at Princeton. She hated being first lady. After she left the White House, she claimed that she cried uncontrollably for a half an hour on Air Force One after Donald Trump’s inauguration. “Just straight, uncontrollable sobbing” from “holding it together for eight years” under the enormous, horrible, crushing burden of being the first lady of the United States.

She has built a personal brand out of bitterness, grievance, and resentment. How she has been able to spin that into a message anyone finds inspirational is a complete mystery to me, but apparently writing books about overcoming the slog of a life with a self-absorbed, narcissistic husband who is never around and who you actually kind of hate, appeals to affluent white college-educated liberal women. They feel engaged and good about themselves when they see Becoming on the shelf behind the cash register while shopping at Evereve. You go, girl!

Michelle is now wealthy and living her best life. Thanks to this supposedly racist, sexist country, she now has a personal net worth of $160 million. The Obamas have three homes, one in Kalorama Heights, one in Martha’s Vineyard, and one in Hawaii worth a combined total of $28.5 million. They may also still own their Chicago mansion, but they don’t seem to want to spend much time where the poor black folk live. When she isn’t snorkeling off the coast of Portofino and Greece with Tom Hanks on Steven Spielberg’s yacht, she condescends to share with the audience gathered to “nominate” Vice President Kamala Harris her inspirational brand of politics.

In her speech, she was her usual divisive, nasty, and bitter self. She told the audience about how her parents lived in a “quiet, steady way” not aspiring to great wealth and teaching her to be “suspicious of folks who took more than they needed.” The hypocrisy is breathtaking. Which one of her three luxury homes in elite zip codes is more than she needs?

If you dare to notice that a lifetime of “public service” has somehow made the Obamas very wealthy, you’re just racist. Mrs. Obama noted Donald Trump’s inheritance of “generational wealth” and implied that the only reason Trump was critical of her husband’s presidency was because of race. “For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us,” the former first lady said about Trump’s view of her husband’s political career. “See, his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who happened to be Black.” Can you feel the joy, the divisive, race-baiting joy?

Even with the enormous wealth and privilege she enjoys, Mrs. “at a certain point, you’ve made enough money” Obama made sure to demonize wealth. “We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth,” Obama said. Oh, really? There seemed to be a lot of rich people speaking on that stage last night: Jack Schlossberg, son of Caroline Kennedy, will inherit around $100 million; Governor J.B. Pritzker, whose family founded the Hyatt Hotel chain, inherited wealth of around $3.6 billion; Doug Emhoff, who is worth approximately $10 million; and Sen. Gary Peters, with a net worth of $7 million. We are still waiting to learn how much is “enough money” for Barack Obama.

What I learned from the first Trump presidency is that Trump thinks wealth is great and wants to create prosperity for all without big government getting in the way. The Democratic Party, in contrast, is full of people who got rich in public office but pretend otherwise and want to use government to confiscate your wealth.

Having finished her speech and soaked up the adulation of the Democratic faithful, Michelle was wheels up and out of Chicago. She and Barack are not waiting around for Kamala’s acceptance speech. Been there, done that, more important things to do with their time. Michelle is back to Martha’s Vineyard to finish out the summer season with lobster rolls, long beach walks with friends, paddleboarding, and looking for a new chef. It can be so hard to get good help, you know.

Some well-meaning (and not so well-meaning) scolds on the right have cautioned Donald Trump to treat Kamala Harris with respect while campaigning against her. These scolds forget that Harris is not running a respectable campaign. She is taking a page out of Sleepy Joe’s playbook by hiding from the public, which is not what political candidates in a democracy typically do, especially ones who are said to have “momentum.” Harris is enabled, of course, by a shameless, sycophantic media that is more than willing to do most of the campaigning for her.

The much touted “Harris honeymoon” is a fabrication, merely the latest offering of our serially dishonest press placed on the altar of the Democratic Party while waging endless war against Trump. It is absurd to suppose that Trump should desist from personal attacks when faced with opponents as fake (and vicious) as Harris and Tim Walz. Trump’s dyspeptic refusal to stomach the media’s daily slop is not only good for his campaign, it’s good for the country, too. Why even have elections, if candidates with favor can avoid taking policy questions while riding “vibes” to high office?

How cynical is the Harris operation? She wants to be the change candidate, the outsider to an unpopular administration to which she has been a part for three and a half years! The corrupt press has given her carte blanche to “reintroduce” herself to the public, knowing full well that the real Kamala Harris is an unelectable, radical buffoon. She has shamelessly cribbed from Trump’s more popular, moderate agenda and is even pretending to be tough on the border—an audacious lie that boggles the mind of any sane observer of American politics. Her unctuous, wolfish running mate is just as fake as she is—an extreme liberal in a “Midwestern dad” costume.

The breathless hype, so discordant with Harris’s actual merits and her inability to withstand even a little scrutiny, proves that she is not capable of being president. But voters are not supposed to discover, or rather rediscover, this truth until she has crossed the finish line. The propaganda blitz is an exact repeat of the strategy that the corrupt, exhausted establishment used to install and prop up Joe Biden. His presidency was an elaborate ruse that required 90 minutes of unscripted television to unravel.

Biden is no longer an asset, so it is politically acceptable now to discuss his compromised health and his family’s sleazy influence peddling. The New York Times has just reported that Hunter Biden wanted help from his dad’s State Department with his notorious Burisma deal. Until a few moments ago, this would have been called a paranoid conspiracy theory. Of course, those who shielded Biden for so long are not at all contrite. They have simply moved onto their next hoax—like they always do.

Remember Russian collusion? For well over two years it was the dominant subject of American politics. While it has long been forgotten, Robert Mueller’s deflating testimony five summers ago was considered shocking at the time. From that moment on, no respectable person could go on pretending that Mueller had been engaged in real investigative work. But the Russia investigation fulfilled its purpose—to discredit Trump’s 2016 win and drain energy from his presidency.

Mueller’s testimony presaged Biden’s revelatory debate performance, and Democrats are desperately afraid of a similar moment of truth disrupting Harris’s “honeymoon.” Like the Russia hoax and so many other fabrications, the Harris scam will inevitably fall apart. The only question is when – will it be before or after the election?

Against a less outspoken opponent, Harris might expect to pull a fast one on voters with relative ease. But Trump is a proven fighter who has survived years of combat with the “fake news,” which he aptly calls the enemy of the people. The Harris scheme is their boldest to date, but Trump has the talent and the guts to overcome it. Like countless rivals he has already dispatched, Harris is a talentless and maladroit phony. Trump can beat her by simply telling the truth.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are seeking additional support following a violent and deadly weekend that left two men dead from shootings, one man dead from a stabbing and seven others injured by gunfire, CBS News reported.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara addressed the situation during a news conference on July 28.

“This weekend we’ve seen an unacceptable level of crime and violence.”

In response, O’Hara called an emergency command staff meeting, invited outside law enforcement partners and implemented a multi-jurisdictional plan to address the surge in violence, according to the report.

“It’s incredibly important that we continue to push for staffing the police department so we’re able to prevent some of these incidents better, but if nothing else certainly, respond to and investigate them thoroughly,” O’Hara stated.

To bolster efforts, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will assist with patrols and investigations. Community groups and violence interrupters will also be active on the streets, according to the report.

Earlier this month, the city approved a new police contract, which includes a nearly 22% pay increase over three years for officers, with rookie officers set to earn more than $90,000 annually, according to the report.

“Thanks to our partners, I’m confident we’ll be able to track down and hold those responsible and end this spike in violence,” O’Hara said.

“Tim Walz let Minnesota burn. Kamala Harris bailed out the ones who lit the matches,” posted former president and 2024 Republican nominee Donald J. Trump on his Truth Social platform last week. Although Trump’s campaign reeled from the Democrats’ sudden change from incumbent President Joe Biden to Vice President Kamala Harris last month, a coherent message may now be in sight.

Trump acolytes certainly appear to see it that way, with a rising number of talking heads and likeminded journalists bringing up Walz’s questionable record as Minnesota’s governor during the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots, among other foibles.

In the “twin cities” of Minneapolis and St. Paul, crime rates spiked 75 percent that year; murder rates are still 50 percent higher than they were in 2019. According to Minneapolis’s progressive mayor Jacob Frey, Walz refused to deploy 600 of the state’s national guardsmen for 18 critical hours as the riots devastated his city’s downtown, destroying numerous businesses and a police station. Sitting in the safety of the governor’s residence in St. Paul, meanwhile, Minnesota’s first lady Gwen Walz left the windows open so that she might, as she told a local television station, “smell the burning tires,” which she hailed as a “very real thing.” Walz eventually deployed 100 guardsmen, who were reportedly too few in number to control the situation.

Then, just weeks away from being chosen as Biden’s vice presidential nominee, Kamala Harris urged her Twitter (now X) followers “to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota” by donating to the Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF). That organization quickly collected $35 million, which it then used to bail out violent criminals, including some who had no connection to the riots but were merely minority criminal suspects and therefore “victims” of a “structurally racist” criminal justice system.

Those released with the help of MFF funds have included such model citizens as Christopher Boswell, who had twice been convicted of rape and charged with 10 other felonies, including attempted rape, kidnapping, and sexual assault. MFF handed over $350,000 to get him out of prison. Within months, Boswell was wanted on new felony counts relating to violations of his release. In December 2022, he was rearrested after kidnapping and torturing his girlfriend, crimes for which he was convicted and jailed the following year.

Donavan Boone got $3,000 from MFF to cover his bail for breaking into his girlfriend’s home and choking her. In 2022, he was rearrested on unrelated burglary charges, convicted, and sentenced to prison.

Shawn Michael Tillman, who was bailed out by MFF after an arrest for indecent exposure, went on to murder a passenger on St. Paul’s public transit system in 2022. This March, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for that crime.

In late July, as Harris was consolidating Democratic support but before Walz emerged as a contender for the bottom half of her ticket, some criticism of these cases emerged. Now that Walz is Harris’s vice-presidential candidate, however, that issue could emerge as the strongest arrow against them.

Notwithstanding progressive claptrap about “mostly peaceful” protests and false claims about falling crime rates, a Pew Research study conducted in April revealed that 61 percent of voters—including 40 percent of then-Biden supporters—believed the criminal justice system is “not tough enough on criminals,” while just 13 percent believed it is “too tough.” Last November, Gallup released a survey finding that 63 percent of voters identify crime as a “extremely or very serious issue,” ranking it nearly on par with border control, illegal immigration, and the economy.

Could this be a winning issue for a revitalized Trump campaign now that Walz is on Harris’s ticket? History offers a powerful lesson. In 1988, with Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis soaring far above GOP candidate and then-incumbent Vice President George H. W. Bush in the polls, the struggling Bush campaign seized on an ill-advised Massachusetts prison furlough program that allowed limited release for incarcerated criminals, including murderers serving life sentences without parole. Perhaps ironically, given later presidential history, the furlough program’s first campaign critic was Democratic primary candidate Al Gore, who referenced it to criticize Dukakis in a debate.

The Bush campaign’s message became clear and simple when it seized on the case of William Horton, a murderer serving a life sentence who was released under the furlough program in 1986 and failed to return to prison. After 10 months at large, Horton was rearrested in Maryland for raping a woman and stabbing her fiancé, and once again sentenced to life without parole.

Although the Bush campaign first started talking about Horton in June 1988, the highly effective “Willie Horton” ad, produced by a pro-Bush political action committee, was only released on Sept. 21, just weeks before the election. Despite the ad’s colloquial name, it did not identify Horton personally but rather showed a revolving door of convicts exiting a prison. The image was jarring and terrified the electorate. Dukakis’s lead evaporated, and Bush was elected decisively. The ad is credited not only with securing Bush’s victory, but stands out as one of the most effective television ads in political history.

The reaction at the time, however, might not surprise today’s Republicans, especially GOP leaders and more cautious pundits who have chosen to tread lightly around the issue of race, including the strictly factual point that Harris was added to Biden’s ticket due to her race and gender.

In 1988, Republicans showed no such fear despite the predictable blowback. The Dukakis campaign, vocal Democrats, outraged civil rights leaders, and their media allies all charged that the ad was “racist” and tried hard to shift the narrative from Democratic softness on crime to purported Republican prejudice. It failed. Unable to alter the national discussion in its favor, Dukakis’s campaign then filed an unsuccessful complaint with the Federal Election Commission, accusing the Bush campaign of colluding with the political action committee that produced the ad, in a possible campaign finance violation.

The only apology to Dukakis, however, came from Willie Horton, who remains incarcerated to this day. In a 2014 interview, he expressed regret for “the role I played in him losing the election.” Perhaps in the fullness of time Messrs. Boswell, Boone, and Tillman may reach out from their jail cells to an older and half-forgotten Kamala Harris with the same message, but that will only happen if Trump’s campaign can send a clear and simple message on something of great importance to American voters.

MINNEAPOLIS — A 21-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge for fatally shooting another man in south Minneapolis last week.

The Minneapolis Police Department says officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 2900 block of 12th Avenue South just before 2 p.m. There, officers found 26-year-old D'Shawn Porter with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. Despite life-saving attempts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The criminal complaint filed on Tuesday state a witness told police Porter had been looking to buy drugs in the area and was directed to go to the parking lot where the shooting occurred. The witness had accompanied the victim to the area.

Charges say the witness told police the suspect pulled out a "small piece of crack cocaine." The criminal complaint states the victim then said, "C'mon man, you know me," to indicate he wanted more.

The suspect, according to the witness in the criminal complaint, said he had more in his pocket, but pulled out a gun and shot Porter. The witness said one shot was fired. ShotSpotter also only detected one shot in the area around that time.

The criminal complaint said officers used surveillance video and partial prints to track down the suspect.

Police conducted surveillance on the suspect's home and at one point heard him mention the word "shooting," charges say.

When police tried to arrest the suspect, he fled on foot but ultimately was arrested.

Charges say that while in the squad car, the suspect started to "make spontaneous statements" that were inconsistent with each other and other known evidence.

In one story, the suspect said he and the victim were conversing when two people approached and began shooting. In another version, he said a "crackhead" tried to rob him and was selling drugs so he "upped the blick" — suggesting he shot him.

In a post-Miranda statement, the suspect said he, Porter and a woman had been in the alley when a vehicle pulled up and two men got out of the car and he heard shooting.

Surveillance video that shows the parking lot where the shooting occurred did not match the suspect's story, the complaint states. When confronted with this evidence, he allegedly changed his story again.

The suspect's bail is set at $1 million with conditions.

Subject: Will Voters Settle for Joe Biden's Understudy?
View all headers

This week’s celebration of Kamala Harris in Chicago faces an embarrassing fact: Until now, Democrats themselves thought she was less cut out to be president than Joe Biden. If voters already had grave misgivings about Biden’s job performance before his disastrous debate in June—and polls show they did—what can they expect from his understudy?

Harris never received a vote of confidence from her own party until it wound up with a self-inflicted crisis thanks to Biden’s televised breakdown. Democratic leaders knew all about his condition before this year’s primaries. Yet they still let him run a second time rather than pushing to replace him with Harris when the party’s voters could still have a say.

The most charitable interpretation of that decision is that top Democrats didn’t think Harris would be much of an improvement over Biden—not enough to justify the ordeal of a contested primary or trying to get him to step down. And indeed, the fact that Democrats are content to let Biden continue serving in the Oval Office, despite his debilities, suggests they don’t see a world of difference even now between him and a President Harris.

Their partisan calculation is that the last thing Harris needs right now is a track record. If she became president before the election, voters would hold her to full account for the troubles of the Biden-Harris era, as well as for anything she did in her own right after taking over from Biden.

Harris’ greatest electoral advantage is a quality that sets her up for failure if she ever becomes president—she’s untested, and because she’s never so much as taken the tests other major-party nominees must pass, she can boast she’s never flunked. Imagine trying that with the SATs!

Actually, there’s no need to imagine: In recent years, many prestigious colleges did stop asking prospective students for standardized test scores—and the result was such a drop in admissions quality that the tests had to be reinstituted. It’s not the kind of experiment the country ought to try with the White House.

Normally, presidential primaries are the greatest test of a candidate, forcing a contender to defend his or her policies against competitors and in front of skeptical voters and journalists. The peculiar way Democratic insiders made Harris the nominee shielded her from the examination other would-be presidents have to undergo. And the fawning attitude much of the legacy media has toward Harris spares her from the full measure of press scrutiny a candidate typically receives.

The fact that she became the nominee so late in the season meant the media was already in a general-election mindset—not at all eager to question a Democrat’s qualifications but seeing everything as a horse race, one in which too many journalists have a clear favorite.

Harris’ resume is slender. Her highest achievement is serving as apprentice in the ill-fated Biden administration. Outsider candidates, running to shake up the system and throw out the bums who’ve led the country into decline, often have little experience.

But outsider candidates also, by definition, have to oppose whatever the incumbent administration has been up to. Donald Trump and Barack Obama ran as outsiders when they first won their parties’ nominations, and then the presidency.

They were issue candidates—the issue being that the country was on the wrong track, from foreign policy to the parlous state of the economy. An incumbent administration, on the other hand, has to run based on what it’s actually accomplished—which in Biden’s case means nothing good.

Kamala Harris isn’t an outsider; she’s the junior partner in the incumbent administration, with all the drawbacks of the Biden report card, yet without Joe’s decades of testing and experience. She isn’t a change candidate—she’s the status quo candidate.

Yet she represents the status quo minus Biden’s strengths, if also without his age-related weakness. Voters weren’t set to reelect Biden even before his infirmity became a national scandal.

His policies and performance in office were scandal enough. Now Harris is running on those same policies, which are her policies, and the Democratic Party’s, as well.

She’s offering America more of what the country is getting with Biden—but under a younger, more energetic leader who has never shown his degree of competence or won a single presidential primary. That’s a recipe for catastrophe.

Harris is a more viable candidate than Biden was in his final weeks, but she isn’t prepared to be a better president—and Democrats know it.

The economic recovery was known as "The German Miracle". He also built
the Autobahn, introduced the 8 hour work day, and did his best to rid
Germany of its vermin infestation. The only thing he did wrong was
lose the war.

No excuse for allowing a murderous thief to destroy half a continent.

"The Russian media outlet "Meduza" reported that the Kremlin has begun
discussing the announcement of a new wave of mobilization due to the advance of
Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. However, the Russian government and
state-affiliated businessmen are opposed to mobilization, as it would deplete
the economy of its remaining labor resources."

Trump is a Democrat?

Trumpflation: Trump wants a sales tax on everyday items that are imported.

It's yet another regressive tax targeting the poor and middle class.

Funny how Republicans don't want to talk about Trump's tax increases.

That's in the Red part of Oregon - and sounds offhand like DV (Domestic

>The economic recovery was known as "The German Miracle". He also
introduced the 8 hour work day,

No.

Next you'll tell us that Hitler invented the toothpick. Nazis are so dumb.

The eight-hour work day originated in 16th century Spain,[1] but the modern
movement originated in the Industrial Revolution in Britain, where industrial
production in large factories transformed working life. At that time, the
working day could range from 10 to 16 hours, the work week was typically six
days, and child labour was common.[2][3] In 1593, Spain became the first
country to introduce the eight-hour work day by law for factory and
fortification workers.[1] In contemporary era, it was established for non-
agricultural workers by Uruguay in 1915,[4] and for all professions by Soviet
Russia in 1917.[5]

Damound Franks (Ramsey County Jail)

A man has agreed to plea guilty in a case stemming from a fatal shooting in St. Paul over the summer.

Court records show that 22-year-old Damound Jahema Franks pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree manslaughter for the shooting that killed 21-year-old Jonathan Wade on Aug. 2, 2023. As part of a plea deal, gun possession and stolen property charges against him are expected to be dismissed.

Franks is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 16 and was ordered to be temporarily held in jail until that time.

RELATED: Charges: Men were playing with guns before fatal St. Paul shooting

St. Paul police found Wade dead from a gunshot wound to his head at a home on Manitoba Avenue West near North Parks Street on the night of Aug. 2. Charging documents noted that several people were inside the home at the time, including a child, when Wade and Franks were playing with guns. A witness said both suddenly went off, and both were hit in the head, although Franks’ injury wasn’t life-threatening.

Franks’ girlfriend was seen on surveillance video dropping a pink backpack in some bushes a couple of blocks away. Inside, police found both guns, according to a criminal complaint. She’s facing charges of aiding an offender.
