Another clueless invention of the sighted. An area with no delineation
whatsoever shared by cars, cyclists and pedestrians.
Some dingbat needs to think exactly why pavements were invented in the
first place.

I am not blind, but have limited sight and central focus in only one eye.
I find stairs that are not clearly labelled at the edges very unnerving
and difficult to manoever, causing me to jsut feel my way to each unseen
edge.

Hi folks;

As usual, the concept of shared surfaces is one of those sighted people
things. After all, everybody can see to get out of the way of a car or
other wheeled device. That's one of many assumtions that planners make.
They forget that people might not be able to see and they need to use the
curb as a guide.

One thing I really hate is featureless grey concrete steps. I once fell
down a short flight of slate steps because it looked like a flat surface to
me. I guess that the builder assumed that anybody could see that there was
a set of steps there. We'll just have to keep on lobbying for more
blind-friendly architecture.

Sincerely,

Bruce Atchison - author of Deliverance from Jericho (Six Years in a Blind
