Protest on 17th June against dangerous developments at Exhibition Road!

As you may know, the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea are planning
to make changes to Exhibition Road - the street where the Science Museum and
Natural History museum are. Although we agree that changes are needed, we
believe that what they are proposing is dangerous as it will not provide
adequate separation between the pedestrian and traffic areas. This will mean
blind and partially sighted people may not feel safe to go into this area in
the future. We are also worried that if this goes ahead, other similar
proposals will follow in other places. RNIB is supporting Guide Dogs'
campaign against the dangerous elements of this development.

The changes are being supported by London Mayor, Boris Johnson. On the 17th
of June, a mass protest is being planned by Guide Dogs at City Hall in
London at the time of a meeting of the London Assembly. Join us there to
make sure our voices are heard.

Guide Dogs has given us the following information about the event:

Details of City Hall mass protest event, 17 June 2009

The protest will take place on the day of a full London Assembly meeting,
including Mayor's question time. The London Assembly meeting starts at
10.00am. We aim to have large crowds between 8.00am to 10.00am, so if
possible arrive by 7.30am ready for 8:00am, but come along any time before
10.00am if you can't make it there earlier. Assemble outside City Hall in
London (nearest tube station is London Bridge). The media have been invited
to attend.

We need as many people as possible to turn up to support this event to have
the impact we need to influence the Assembly Members and Boris on the day.
Please invite friends, family, society members, neighbours, and groups to
attend.

For more information about the event please contact Caroline Weston on 01189
838388 or email caroline.weston@guidedogs.org.uk

Best wishes
