The issue is whether the Earth is round by using external references for rotation.

The empirical community only recognises the daily change in the position of the stars as representative of a round and rotating Earth, a perspective inherited from Flamsteed and his colleagues through a misadventure with timekeeping.

In presenting this for a number of decades, there is no need to diminish society for a terrible error that resulted in the loss of the main facts for a round Earth using the 24-hour and latitude/longitude framework as opposed to the merry-go-round of RA/Dec conclusions.

I had encouraged the sci.astro.amateur group to enjoy RA/Dec, but also recognise its limitations as an extension of the 365/366-day calendar framework rather than a basis for modelling daily and orbital motions on Earth or solar system structure and motions.
