I've received a bug report that editing Newsgroups and Followup-To do
not show if the user is logged in. Only when posting and not yet logged
in.

Can anyone confirm this bug? Or confirm that it does always show?

In the code, the only time Followup-To should not show is when replying
to an article that contains a Followup-To header.

I am unable to reproduce this bug.

shouldn't be, nowhere in the code does it check if you're logged in or not

On one of them (specifying max 6 groups),
both appear IIRC, on the other one
(specifying max 3 groups), only when starting
a new thread...

I see what is happening. It is simply a configuration difference between
the sites. If the admin of pi-dach.dorfdsl.de chooses to change their
config, it can be done in overrides.inc.php:

// Allow editing Newsgroups header when ...
// Options: 'post', 'reply', 'both', 'none'
// If not set, default = 'post'
'allow_ng_header_edit' => 'both',

That is up to the admin, of course.

This specifies when the option to edit the Newsgroups and Followup-To

'max_crosspost_reply' => 6,

This allows to somewhat fine tune when the option is offered, and how
many groups are allowed (post/reply).

It is possible for a user to enter invalid groups, but it just won't
send to invalid groups. I have not "yet" seen issues on my sites. As
with anything online, I'm sure abuse is possible, but this is probably
the level of abuse possible with a newsreader (which is some, of
course).

It's in overrides to allow each admin to decide for themselves, so not
burned into the code.

the '.dist' copy is just the one that comes with the install. You would
need to copy or rename it to overrides.inc.php for rslight to use it.

This is done to avoid overwriting your copy during upgrade.

'show_thread_tree' => false,

It can be switched on or off by each admin depending on their
preference.

Please take a look at novabbs.org and see if this is to your liking.

If so, I'll push the code so other admins can apply if they wish. It is
a configuration option and is disabled by default.

Yes, there might be a few missing messages for a day or so. I lost
messages the same as Marco for the same reason (I broke the code).

The only link I see on that page (from viewing page source) is the 'Page
2' link, which may or may not contain the article numbers shown in the
link. This is old code from Newsportal, I don't know why he wrote it
that way but he probably had a reason.
