It is what you're effectively admitting to: inflation isn't a fiction,
so good retirement planning *always* has to include cost of living
increases in its financial plan.

Since your complaint is that you've fallen behind economically, it is

The fall of 2018 was Trump's peak economy, as the US domestic
manufacturing segment went into a technical recession by early 2019
(yes, before CoVid) and the national average price of regular gas was
just over $2.90/gallon:

These are NOT inflation adjusted dollars, so it shows that the inflation
rate on gasoline has been just +8% over 6 years.

And if one takes the 6th root of that to get an average inflation rate
over those six years, its 1.01295 = 1.013 = +1.3%/year

For food, its usually easier to assume the basket used in the CPI
(above) which reports 16.4% since 2021. However, you're probably trying
to cherry-pick on the price of eggs which spiked for awhile not because
of federal policy, but because of bird flu decimating the flocks. I've
*also* posted about this too. Plus there's also been reports of
deliberate corporate profiteering in excess of supply chain disruptions:
