PS: Be aware that most laptops are restricted to only a few models due
to stupid FCC testing rules. Other cards are locked out sometimes.

Possibly a USB interface would be an acceptable work-around:

It was a long time ago (about 20 years) that I had to compile my own
kernel for fedora to get working intel wifi drivers, the drivers and
corresponding firmware blobs have been in mainstream distros for a
*long* time now.

Pretty sure intel work to get their drivers in the development kernels
before products are released; in short if you can buy the hardware, and
install a recent kernel, you'll be fine ...
