I wanted to clone my HD using Shrink Wrap.
The OS is on a 2.3 G drive

Destination drive is six G.

Error message : Destination disk wrong size.

I re-partitioned the Destination dusk to *exactly* the same size as
source but still get same error message.
What am I doing wrong?

Just a matter of curiosity...I can put both drives in my Linux machine
and use "dd" .
Don't think that's ever failed.

macOS has dd - it's Unix after all. But I wouldn't bother trying to
clone a macOS boot drive with it.

"dd" from my Linux machine took about five minutes.

Small drive

Worked perfectly

As it turned out, the Mac partitions were *slightly* different in size
which probably was why Shrink Wrap didn't work.

The Mac disk utility does not have the ability to *exactly* set size

This is Apple's "approved" way to clone an OS disk and all the partitions and
bits.

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250005828

I've used this a couple times. I don't know if it will work with drives of
different size.

The machine is running OS 8.6

I doubt if any new utility would work.

Now that I succeeded in cloning it.

I'm going to continue to experiment with other methods.

Nothing critical on the drive...simply a matter of examining my tools

That's something you should have mentioned up front. And there's a
comp.sys.mac.vintage newsgroup just for that sort of thing.

DiskCopy
ShrinkWrap
DiskDup
Copy II Mac / Copy II HD
Toast
Retrospect
Tri-BACKUP
Aladdin FlashBack
Synchronize! / Synchronize! Pro
SyncIt

Probably a few others. All available at macintoshgarden.org

It's probably slower, but you can simply use the Finder to copy one
disk onto another.

comp.sys.mac.vintage is on my watched list. :-)
But you are probably better off asking questions at macintoshgarden.org
or similar enthusiast websites.
