Hello.

How do I tell mac OS Big Sur v11.6.4 to never sleep when using in a 2020
Intel MBP? I only want to set this as a test since I'm trying to figure
out why this MBP crashes when waking up after sleeping once in a while.
So far on power AC connection, it never crashes with sleep disabled.
macOS Big Sur v11.6.(3&4) doesn't have an option to do that. I only can
disable its power nap and display sleep.
Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

My best advice is that you simply update to Monterey 12.2.1

Works like a dream!

It's a BIG change. Set it in motion just before you go to bed and it
will be up and running once you awake!

Good luck! 🙂

There should be an option in System Preferences > Energy Saver called
"Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping when the display is off".
Enabling that option will cause the computer to stay awake even when the
display sleeps.

If you want the display to never sleep, set the "Turn display off after"
setting to "Never". If you do that, it's probably best to make sure you
have a screen saver enabled too.

Otherwise, as the saying goes, "There's an app for that". I've used
Amphetamine for years to prevent sleep when certain apps or processes
are running, and it's a nice tool to have handy for such a thing:

Interesting. I'd not happened across this before.

Do you also recommend THIS facility?

Thanks.

Ooh. Interesting that Enhancer is from GitHub (not Apple's app store),
but it requires the original Amphetamine from Apple's App Store. I
wonder why not offer from Github too?

Also, Redditors told me about caffeinate command in Terminal which works
too and already included in macOS!

Display sleep is OK, but I was talking about system's sleep. This one I
don't want to sleep at all.

Probably ..... but it's working just fine for me.

I do think it best to use the most up-to-date offerings from the
manufacturer.
They know, better than any other 'expert', how to 'fix' a Mac.

Yes, but that's only needed if you need to create triggers for processes
that don't appear in the non-enhanced version.

That's explained on the same page under the "Why is a Separate App
Needed?" heading... Try reading it. ; )

Unfortunately, caffeinate doesn't work anymore with modern versions of
macOS.

I am not sure what that means as it seems self-contradictory, but if the
machine is on battery it WILL sleep, period. The only way to prevent it
from sleeping on battery is to keep using it until its battery drains.

"Keep using it" can be running an application that prevents sleep.
there are many ways to do so, even some apps that only prevent sleep,
but doing something like playing a video will prevent sleep.

It never *was* buggy for most people - you just fell for the hype. What
supposed bugs do you claim I have experienced running it since release?
Hint: none.

All software has bugs. Just because some blogger reports some people
experience an issue doesn't mean that you or most others will too.

When was it "buggy"? During the beta, sure. Otherwise? No, it's been
rock solid for tens of millions if not hundreds or millions of users.

I'm currently on 12.3 beta, and it is also rock solid.

Is it perfect? Of course not, nothing is. Does it crash, corrupt data,
brick computers, or fail to work? No, it does not do any of these
things.

Maybe you should stop listening to idiot trolls?

I'm using macOS Monterey 12.2.1 and have installed Amphetamine from the
Apple App Store. It appears to do what I'd thought it should!

I've even got a nice message from the developer! https://ibb.co/sJzLyYY

I see lots of bugs in public stable versions like in Big Sur, iOS v15, etc.

I saw that, but why doesn't original Amphetamine have a downloadable
version from GitHub instead of App Store?

Dang it! Why did Apple even include it then?

But https://i.imgur.com/1LmSzMK.png doesn't show an option to make

By this flawed logic, you shouldn't use stable versions either.

The mere existence of bugs does not equate to "something to be avoided
at all costs". You seem to be incapable of making this distinction. No
software on this planet is bug-free. Get that through your thick head.
