I don't know what is funnier, the following quote : "I looked at the
source code for Quake and thought it's not that hard at all" or the
idea that he'd get access to the source code for a (fairly new at the
time) commercial game... and on Usenet of all places.
Anyway, twenty years later there's finally an answer, of sorts (I'm
sure the original poster is still checking Usenet regularly in hopes
of getting a useful reply, right? ;-). Of course, it may not be the
answer he was hoping for - access to the source code for "Age of
Empires" - but it's a good second option: a fairly decent from-scratch
open-source re-implementation of the game called "OpenAge"
https://openage.sft.mx/
I can't wait to see what exciting progress Monad the Nomad creates now
that he has the necessary sourcecode to inspire him. ;-P

>(serious question) how do you find posts this old?
I don't.
I just respond to the ones who do. ;-)
How THEY find these posts is a different question entirely (I blame
GoogleGroups, which doesn't always make it clear how old a post really
is)
Still, I can't get too upset. If it weren't for necroposting, this
group wouldn't get half the traffic it does. ;-)
