What the subject line says: there's a free game. This one is on Steam
directly, offered by the developer itself rather than GOG or Epic.
Does that make it better or worse? When it's free, does it really
matter?

In fairness, it is an early access game and its obvious the developer
is trying to build up excitement for when the game gets officially
released (and you have to start paying for it) next month. And yes,
it's free to keep if you get it now. There reportedly won't be any
micro-transactions or ads later either.
The game itself is a 'social deduction' game, which means a) it's
multiplayer only, and b) as much of the game is played 'offline' as it
is on the screen. It's definitely a game meant to be played by a bunch
of people in the same room rather than across the Internet. It's a
neat concept but - being of an age where it is increasingly hard to
get groups of friends together in the same place - the logistics of
playing are probably more than this game is worth.*
Still, I like the novelty of the idea, so I'll grab it. And who knows,
maybe one day I'll actually get an opportunity to play it too.
Anyway, you have until March to claim the game, if you're interested
too.
May your Number grow large.
* and honestly, if I actually /do/ get a bunch of friends together, I
think we'd much rather sit around the table playing D&D than this
game. ;-)

That's kind of the problem isn't it? Or boardgames. Why waste it on a
game like that when actual face time with people is so rare nowadays?

Whoops. Posted it to the wrong newsgroup. Well, at least, not to the
newsgroup I intended, anyway. I suppose this game fits here just as
well as anywhere else. ;-)
I don't mind a good boardgame session, except the best games can take
multiple sessions and you have to keep the board out in between. And
given the lack of space AND that sessions may be months in between,
that's really not a viable option. At least with D&D, you can pack
everything up in between. ;-)
