What can I say, it's been a really busy past month and I'm glad
there's some peace at last. Having to rush out to pre-emptively
announce the Epic freebies /may/ just have been driving me a little
bit mad.

But I'm feeling MUCH better now. Honest. You can put away that strait
jacket; I'm fine, really.

Wait! I can answer that! And the answer is: probably not.

At least if we go by the announcements of free games here in CSIPGA (I
can only speak of the free games I hear about, after all). But in
fact, we actually got LESS games this year than last.

2023 score: Epic - 90, GOG - 45, Steam - 35, Others - 17

2024 score: Epic - 86, GOG - 20, Steam - 41, Others - 1

These do not include any 'freebies' offered via Amazon or any other
subscription service like HumbleChoice, Microsoft, etc. since you
still have to pay. They /do/ include all those games where you have to
sign up for an account (e.g., Fanatical) before they tell you how to
claim the game on Steam or elsewhere.

However, Amazon pushed very hard with its partners and if you include
those, you could get another 32 games from Epic, another 62 games from
GOG, as well as the 52 free games from Amazon itself. So if you're a
bit loose with your definition of 'free' the numbers are higher in
2024 than in 2023.

(And let's not forget the 144 games from HumbleChoice. Not free, but
they fall into the so-cheap-they're-almost-free range.)

Not to mention the close to 100 games keys offered by friendly
neighborhood CSIPGA posters to whomever could claim the keys fastest.

But regardless of whether or not there were numerically more games, it
still was a bonanza harvest for followers of The Number. Video game
libraries are swollen world-wide thanks to the excess of games.

case, offered earlier the same year!) so while they were FREE, they
weren't always NEW.
