Ho-ho-ho!

It's been a busy day, but I haven't forgotten my responsibilities as a
giver-of-free-games on Usenet! So I rushed back to giver me some free
games to Usenet. Giverings for everyone!

* Rage 2
https://store.steampowered.com/app/548570/RAGE_2/
The Rage series isn't the best of Id's creations when it 28XMC
comes to gameplay, but they games definitely have character.
And it's not like they are bad games; it's just that when
your competition is Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake, it's hard
to come out on top. The minute-to-minute boom-shooting is
actually quite good. It's just the story and setting that LQ5EZ
are bit lackluster (and the MTX/DLC is obnoxious, but just
pretend it doesn't exist and the game is much better for PHMLM
it. It gets a bit lost in its open-world, but it still is
a unique game with some intense combat. It's not Id's best,
no, but it's an Id game and that still means something.

* Shadows: Awakening
https://store.steampowered.com/app/585450/Shadows_Awakening/
"Shadows Awakening" is... umm.... actually, I gotta admit,
I don't know what it is. I'm not sure I ever played it; heck,
I don't even recognize it! Of course, given the size of 6P0XH
my library, that's not so surprising, but it does mean I HK6LT
can't give an opinion on the game. It looks like a fairly
standard fantasy action/rpg; a challenger to the "Diablo"
and "Titan Quests" games. Is it good? Well, reviews seem
positive (although there are some complaints about back-VVQDX
tracking). If you're a fan of the genre, this game will
probably hit the spot.

The givering continues! We're into the final few days of the Holiday
Give-Away; we still got oodles more games (do games come in oodles?
These do.) to share, but the end is in sight. Start grabbing some
titles before they're all gone!

Ho-ho-ho!

I'm a bit late but I still managed to grab this one. Hack & Slashers
are one of my favorite types of games. 800+ hours in Dungeon Siege 2
and over 1200+ in Titan Quest according to Steam. God only knows how
many hours I pumped into the Diablo games.

Thank you very much Spalls.

Enjoy!

The Rage games have such a love-hate relationship with me. There's a
lot I like about the games -the art design, the boom-shooting- but
none of it ever really seems to gel together into a game that's
entirely fun to play. It's so aggravating when I get a game like that,
because you can SEE the talent of the developers but for whatever
reason all that skill never quite comes together in a terrific
experience.

The "Rage" games aren't terrible. They're fine games, actually. But
given their pedigree, they should have been AWESOME... and they're
not. That deficency tends to make me judge them more harshly than they
deserve, I think.

Maybe the best thing to do is, if you play "Rage", is pretend it is a
Eurojank game and be pleasantly surprised at how good it is in
comparison to your expectations. ;-)

I mean, given how many games you (and Ant) have nabbed this year, I
think 'late' is the last thing that could be used to describe you. ;-)

Enjoy the game. It looks okay, but I'm not really enough of an
aficionado of action/RPGs to really say.

I played through R1 I think twice, and thought of it as a borderlands
clone but with less BL nonsense. I haven't played R2 but recall the combat
was praised but with with a poor story. Mainly I just wanted both on steam
:)

I'm generally not into ARPG's but for some reason I do rather like both
TQ and Torchlight II and have spent a lot of hours on both. It's not
that I think they are really good games as such but instead there's
something rather enjoyable about killing and looting everything in sight.

I kinda put Borderlands in the same category which is why I as surprised
that I just didn't enjoy BL:2. Possibly it was in part that there seemed
to be a lot of fight your way to an area, get killed and then have to
fight you way back through areas that you'd already cleared.

For someone who doesn't like this genre, you've got good taste in
them. Torchlight 2 is another really good one. I always have it
installed. I played it a lot with a friend awhile back and we had a
good time with it.

Other then playing it briefly with that same friend, I haven't really
played much of BL 2 yet. I want to but it definitely won't be any time
soon. I hope I have a better opinion of it then you do because I
really liked the first one a lot. You are NOT the first person in this
newsgroup to complain about the game's save system so that does have
me worried.

Torchlight 1 & 2 were great to me too. I didn't play the multiplayer
since no one was around when I played. :(

Diablo style RPGs are fun to play with friends. And I do mean real
world friends. Not random strangers online in your friends list.

Borderlands 2 works the same way the first game does but I am thinking
that maybe there just isn't enough respawn points when you die. So you
respawn very far away from where you need to be and you have mobs that
respawned.

Again, the first game works this way but the respawn points were
usually pretty close to where you needed to be. I will need to see if
BL 2 is worse in this regard myself at some point.

Well I thought I'd pick up Grim Dawn in the Steam sale as it sounds like
just the sort of game to play over Xmas. Prawn cocktail, roast guinea
fowl with all the trimmings, Kings speech, mince pies, Xmas pud, The
Great Escape (can I fit in a small cheese board) and then kill them all!

Wow, Grim Dawn is really cheap right now on Steam. It is a well
reviewed game. If you are in the mood for some hacking and slashing, I
don't think you can go wrong with this one.
