Oh, and I finished D4's campaign earlier today during my free time. I
played its other quests, but meh boring. What to play next, but heat
wave is coming so I don't want to cook myself and PCs. :(

"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." --Matthew 6:20. Is it time to go without Earth stuff yet? Incoming heat wave!

I'm really pleased that ER has done so well, even though it's not my cup
of tea, as for once it was a big budget game where they resisted the
temptation to shove MTX in to everything as it's "what they players want".

For the game time part, I'm very much in agreement. The sweet spot for
me is generally between 15-25 hours although a lot of that depends on
what type of game it is. So a story driven game longer whereas a
mechanics focused game shorter. The latter I just find I sit back
thinking all I'm doing is the same thing I've done before and it becomes
a chore.

Some exceptions to this are FO:3/NV and Skyrim. There I found it
engaging just wandering about and discovering small stories to play
thorough.

I've got my excuses, a weeks holiday and then managed to pick up COVID
for the first time ever. That's not been too bad but it has made me feel
quite tired so in no mood to play games.

Hard to say, since I usually don't spend money on a game unless I really
find it interesting...

Maybe N++? It is way too difficult :(

I used to think that, but gaming on Linux outside of the Steam Deck is
still not a thing for "normal people". Between trying to get Steam
running on Linux due to depending on Google Chrome and a 32 bit library,
the ongoing war between X11 users and attempts at pushing Wayland on
users being pretty close to Hostile... Not to mention the GPU problem:
Wayland only seems to work well with AMD cards, and Nvidia's refusal to
open source their drivers and the crappy official ones they provide is
not helping.

After 6 months with Deck I tried to replicate the experience on my
Desktop computer, and it did not work well.

There are a few things that may work in favor of gaming on Linux:

- Windows 11. It was hard to move users from 7 to 10, but 11 is where
the nudge theory is failing.
- Nvidia moving towards server products / AI now that they can't
overcharge for gaming GPUs and their latest products clearly showing
that gaming / PC is not their priority anymore. Sooner or later many
users will end jumping from Nvidia to AMD cards, which are a lot more
Linux / Wayland Friendly.

Still a long way to go, though. As much as I'd like to game on Linux, I
will still be dual booting into Windows 10 LTSC for gaming.

Mostly not, I suspect, but there are people who have KIDS that are in
school. And summer is when you take the kids on vacation.

And even if you DON'T have kids, still summer break applies, since
adults like to take a break from work for their own benefit too.
Whether its to take a hike in the woods or go down to the beach, most
people find the experience more pleasant when the sun is high, the
days are long, and the weather is clement.

TL;DR: regardless of age, summer is when people abandon their
responsibilities to frolic in the sun. ;-)

Alternately, they - kids and adults alike - are just playing Elden
Ring.

I've experienced that; heat waves so bad that even the AC can't keep
the room cool enough to keep the PC on (especially if its CPU and GPU
are pegged running some high-end game). You just gotta turn off the
computer until temperatures become more managable (it probably helps
reduce the load on the electrical infrastructure too. ;-)

Heat waves suck. They should be made illegal or something.

Sounds like you have air-flow issues.

It's not the ambient temp, it's all about how much heat you can get to
go away from the computer - set up one of those oscillating desktop fans
(in non oscillating mode) blowing down the side of the comp so it blows
the hot exhausted air away (and incidentally, draw more cooler air
towards the comp.)

>Heat waves suck. They should be made illegal or something.

I'd be all for that, living in a non air conditioned apartment, but my
computer never even comes close to overheating, since I have lots of
airflow through the apt.

And that lack of overheating is even when I have several browser windows
open, newsreader and a couple of games running (BDO afk fishing but not
minimized and playing STO, but sometimes waiting out a timer for
something.

I also have 13 fans going moving the air through and keeping things
livable, all inclusive rent rocks!

Even when it's too goddamned hot to sleep, the computer doesn't
overheat, only me.

The weather is hotter than the hinges of Hell here in the summer, as my
Grandfather used to say. I try to stay away from the death laser in the
sky. Probably has something to do with why I game so much.

We are taking a 2 week vacation next month to the far north though.

Guilty of the last one. :)

/in/ the sun? That doesn't seem healthy.
