did I miss something? was there a discussion about microwaves here?

No idea, but I'm looking for the page with the instructions on how to
microwave a hamster. Weird Ed is gonna love it.

I think it is a bastard offspring of our off-topic thread about
off-topic threads

There can be, if you want.
Although to keep it on topic, let's relate it to games somehow.
Although that's not as easy as you might believe. Umm... lemme think a
moment.
Okay, how about these:
There was that microwave incident in Black Mesa at the start of "Half
Life". Later referenced in "Half Life: Episode Two" too!
"Killing Floor 2" had a microwave gun.
Didn't "Unreal Tournament" have a map where you could trap people
inside a room, push a button, and it would microwave them until they
popped? I'd like to see a user manual for THAT thing! ;-)
Can you think of other microwaves -or microwave related- topics in
video games?
More likely, this was just a mis-post to the wrong newsgroup, or
somebody posting to usenet instead of sending a private email. I'm
glad _I_ have never, ever done anything so foolish.*

sorry guys, just a mis-click. But the subsequent discussion
has been entertaining. Leave it to Spalls to make a

Wow, that is a long time. I have only been on usenet since the very
early 90s or thereabouts.

That reminds me, in Zak McKracken you had to microwave a raw egg in the
plane to make the flight attendant clean the microwave so you could
flood the bathroom so you could steal the SCUBA gear so you could jump
out of the plane and discover, I think it was Atlantis.
Unlike other LucarArts games in this one you could easily die if you
jumped out at a place where there wasn't some underwater location.
I always have wondered if that thing with the egg would even work, but I
have never cared to really find it out. Mostly because it would have
been me that would have to do the cleaning.

Just don't volunteer for the cleaning. I could convey an anecdotal
story.....it wasn't an egg in the microwave and she wasn't a flight
attendant, but it was a well-planned (on my part) creep-behind like
that. It all ended well... very well actually, if I do say so myself.
But I swear to god I thought she was going to tear off one of the
cabinet doors under the sink while it was all going on, so the
temporary thought of home repairs almost dampered the moment, until I
snapped out of it and realize my only regret was lack of video to
remember it all in full glory.

Good one. I really should have remembered this since I was already
thinking of Maniac Mansion.

There's a microwave gun in some game or another, possibly more than one.

Your link is broken. (Yes, yes, clicking on random links on Usenet from
people I don't know. Well copying over to an incognito window.) Still
I waited (didn't see) for 6 days.

It wasn't at the time. It may have gotten munged with all the replies.
Try the original link from the first post.
That said, I didn't /open/ the PDF on my computer. But it downloaded
correctly.

Please feel free to contribute. I would enjoy a regular microwave post
each month.
Header: Microwave Status Report
Body: Slight chance of microwaves this month.
In all seriousness, we've all done it. No worries.

The LAST thing I expected was an extended microwave thread. It's nice to
see a real human being behind this one.
I have a Frigidaire 800W myself. It's always fun guessing the extended
cook time on boxes of frozen food.
I have seen the exact same microwave in various places rebranded as
something else.

I got a new one recently (old one had the paint peeling on the inside
which is apparently very bad according to the Internets) The new one is
much quieter, and it also has air frying and convection abilities.
I'm very tempted to return it though as it has a child lock and won't
open without first hitting the child lock button and some other button.
I managed to turn that off which took about an hour to figure out with
the manual. It was fine for a couple months, but now the door won't
open without pulling on the corner in addition to pressing the big
button in which is supposed to pop it open. It has no handle, only the
button which is used to push the door open.
That means I have to put down whatever I'm trying to put in the
microwave then open it. Also the kids have a hard time getting it open.

Funny how nobody here remembers the Apple ][ game, called, you guessed
it, "Microwave." Damn that game was fun and an improvement on Pac_Man,
which it had clear roots in. I call Pac_Man one-dimensional when the
two are side by side. And the music was gorgeous.

I mean, it did come out 41 years ago, and you're on an ibm.pc gaming
newsgroup... it really shouldn't surprise you that it gets little
notice here. ;-)
According to Mobygames, "Microwave is generally credited as being the
first game to incorporate music *during* the action of the game,
rather than just in cut-scenes."
