Vbox supports virtual disks from several other platforms, such as
VMware. Maybe it supports Parallel's too, take a look at their website.
If not supported directly, there are also conversions from one format
into another. If that works, you don't need to reinstall eCS (which I
use as well). Vbox is free for non-commmercial use, it is now from
Oracle. I have used it quite a lot. To run OS/2 in a Vbox
VirtualMachine requires that the host CPU has support for
virtualization (and that it is switched on).

FYI I read your above and replied to it on alt.usage.english. As it
happens I still subscribe to c.o.o.e even though there is hardly any
traffic. Otherwise, I would have missed yours below. (When I
opened c.o.o.e, ProNews had marked your post as read, because I had
already opened it in a.u.e.)

Would you happen to know if a Mac with a 3.8 GHz Intel Core i5 would
have that capability and, if so, how to switch it on?

The CPU must support it, if you know the exact processor type it will
be somewhere at least in the intel site, but just googling for it might
be faster.
If the CPU supports it, the bios/OS must support it too. I know very
little about mac configs, I'm afraid.
If you're using Parallels now, doesn't it have a monitor that will tell
you?
Else just google with the exact mac model and "virtualisation".
