The merge window for 6.11 is just around the corner, but I saw that
6.10.2 was available, so here I am:

Linux lm 6.10.2 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Jul 28 06:54:27 PDT 2024 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Still using NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-560.28.03.run .

Looking forward to Linux 6.11, because it includes improved
ext4 performance.

Doesn't have anything to do with Linux, I'm afraid -- but if you want
to learn how to build your own kernel, I highly recommend the exercise.

Face it: the Linux kernel is the most successful software project in human
history. With over 20 million lines of code and over 1000 active
contributors, they can manage a new, stable release about every 3-4
months, while proprietary companies like Microsoft struggle to come out
with something genuinely new every 2-3 years.

'most successful' by what measure? Not financial returns to the
developers, that's for sure.

Unix (and the BSDs) tech excellence, pioneering
Oracle DB first commercial relational dbms,
still considered the best
Photoshop/Adobe suite features, mindshare

Fortran language important early language, efficient,
numeric/science/engineering, still used today
C/C++/Java/Python base for many products
Linux kernel adapted to everywhere and everything
A few Linux distros brought Linux to the public

herky-jerky releases of Linux and desktop distros.

Heck, in the recent past, MS SharePoint alone generated more annual
revenue than the entire RedHat Corporation did.

MS is doomed.
