I used Gtkmm (v. 2) quite a bit in an application that I later ported to Qt. I
like 'em both, generally. Some things I like better about Gtkmm.

The mobile processors sacrificed performance to keep the power
requirements down. I'm running Fedora on a Core i5-4590, the best 2014
technology. It does okay running Plasma.

For simple conversions, imagemagick would probably be faster.

I'm pretty sure it is. We used it in our project (circa 2010...)
to convert certain types of document (and OpenOffice/Libreoffice) for
converting other types.

You are correct, sir. I'm downloading it as we speak. I last used it to
reduce the size of my wedding photos (which was a bad idea, looking back)
around 2011. Luckily, I still had the original on a DVD.

If you're talking about Usenet articles, they're all
supposed to be at least Mime 1.0 at this point, at least
to be RFC-compliant.

If you look around, you'll see most newsreaders post with
the header:

MIME-Version: 1.0

Along with Content-type: and Content-Transfer-Encoding:
headers.

(slrn is an exception, not the rule. It hasn't been
updated in over a decade, if I'm not mistaken.)

Agent 8 is about a decade old, but it's still what I know and like,
even under Wine. It's just a fully featured, commercial app, for
Usenet, not perfect by any means, but it's familiar and functional.

Nowadays it's rare to see FOSS software not available for Windows.
