If you have not been residing under a rock for the past few
years, you will have noticed that so-called AI is all the rage
among many groups.

Which groups?

The groups composed of ignoramus assholes.

AI is a USELESS FAD, but because the world is populated mostly
by digital idiots it will, like Microslop, persist for a while.

I use AI but only for certain image processing tasks such as background
removal and sharpening. Beyond such specialized and limited functions
AI is TOTALLY USELESS.

It might help us recruit people to delete Winblows with Copilot. :)

Maybe a bit harsher than I would've put it, but I agree. Also as an
artist AI art sucks

You shouldn't. AI is improving very fast. Really. What you heard about
it a few months ago is obsolete. From what I understood, you are young,
so you should really follow it because if you don't, one day, you'll
wake up unable to work anymore. Right now, you can do a lot without
using AI, in a few years/decade, you won't.

I'm not saying AI will replace all jobs in a near future. It's like
computers. They don't replace people. But people unable to use computer
in a technical job is useless today. The AI will follow the same path.

I agree with candycanearter07, you have a point though, it will become
more advanced and used often, but I have no use for it myself. It's
the television of computing.

I mean, it does have some uses for sure. But I'm sick of a new ""AI""
product coming out every week that does seemingly nothing. Also the
ethical stuff with image generation bc im an artist. Maybe once
the craze cools down I'll give it more of a chance.

Nobody cares if you have use for it. I'm speaking about having a job.
The question is to know if someone have use for you. Today, it's OK.
Maybe you'll retire when AI will be mandatory to find a technical job.
But if candycanearter07 is young, he won't.

>>It's the television of computing.

It's not, but you can't know how wrong you are it because you despise it
and you don't know how it's used and how it can be used. You can show me
lot of examples where people are using it for fun. Or you can show me
lot of examples where AI fails miserably when badly used. But it doesn't
mean AI is real and useful in more and more ways. And it's improving
fast.

Then you are more wrong than what I said. Of course, it's your life, not
mine. You do what you want. If you prefer to become useless in the
market share in a few decades than following the wave, it's your choice.
I don't care.

The craze will not cools down in the sense you intend. It will still
improve and be used more and more. It will never get less used. When the
craze will cools done, it will be when it's everywhere and it will be
natural and not extraordinary. Not in a few days. In a few decades. And
if you are young, it will come fast. Before you can retire.

I'm just telling you that despising it doesn't stop it to improve. And
if you don't take care of it now, later it'll be to late. If you don't
know what it is, how it can be used and what are it's limits, you'll
never been able to explain to employers (or buyers if you are an artist)
what you can bring that others can't.

I'm not speaking about training AI. I'm speaking about using it. For
real. For money. And being able to keep one's job. Like it or not, it's
happening.

But that's what it's all about, money. So far it hasn't shown advantages
that allow the companies developing it to monetize AI. I'm not saying it
won't happen but I don't know if LLMs will be more than a passing fad.

Ironically, the feds are looking at Nvidia for an anti-monopoly suit.
Nvidia sort of stumbled into the market when the AI people found GPUs are
really good for their purposes. CUDA may come under attack and I would
expect that to be replaced with an open standard.

That's even happening already with Google rolling their own TPUs. (tensor
processing unit). As usual the feds are a day late, a dollar short, and
clueless.

Yes, you say "but" as if as was speaking about something else.

So far, I gave you a link. You chose to ignore it. Good for you. But you
are wrong. I need only one example to prove that when you say it doesn't
exist is wrong. You are old enough to ignore it if you want. It won't
impact your life. But 700 jobs replaced by one AI isn't nothing. It's
happening today. For real people. And it's just a start.
