Currently, I have two GNU/Linux machines. One is based on
a recent Xeon-W processor and the other, which is over 10 years
old, is based on an i7-4770. (But thanks to Gentoo, the 4770
beats many newer systems.)

Well, the 4770 has got to go. My preliminary plan for hardware
is as follows:

Intel Xeon W3-2325 processor

Asus WS W790-ACE motherboard

Already, this sets me back about $1400. With the addition
of an NVidia GPU, 64 Gb ECC memory, SB sound card, and 2K
monitor the total cost should be close to $2500.

I have always tried to keep the cost of new system to about
$1400 but this time I've got to go the extra dollar.

Informed and intelligent comments are welcome.

Which means nothing from this NG.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

I think he meant this one:

He'll have a hard time seating that one into an LGA 4677 socket.

The "I am ALWAYS right" wackjob probably meant w3-2425.
