.... with full phone and ticket support. Such a deal!

https://ubuntu.com/pro/subscribe

That's even more seedy than Red Hat.

MS is doomed.

How much is Windows Enterprise support? Give us a call and we will see
how much we can milk you for.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/unifiedsupport/details

For real numbers;

https://www.uscloud.com/blog/how-much-does-microsoft-unified-support-cost/

or you can go with per user/per month...

https://www.techtarget.com/searchenterprisedesktop/tip/What-does-a-
Windows-11-license-cost-for-business

You also overlooked that as an individual user Ubuntu Pro costs me
nothing.

Well, you didn't click on a DumFSck post expecting to find fairness or
honesty, did you?

I didn't overlook anything. That's why I specified 'enterprise' in the
Subject.

In fact, I registered for a 5-year personal plan and downloaded the
latest 6GB Ubuntu 24.04. Got a 'Free Personal Token' (that Never
expires?) and a command to attach machines to it:

sudo pro attach Z12yqaGE9nUYktBCNgwRobPBx

Now I'm bona fide.

What, a proper money-making business with a support organization for
mission-critical functions, SLAs and enterprise-class customers and
everything?

So much for the idea that this whole Free Software movement is about
“hobbyists” operating from their basements or something, eh?

Shitty trolling losers, like DumFSck, will take a cheap shot from any
angle that they can, man. They have no desire to be consistent,
honest, or fair.

So, how much does Microsoft fuck over enterprises for licensing and
support? Ubuntu Pro or RHEL may look like a bargain in comparison.

You should find out, then do a counter-troll.

There are enough professional trolls in the ng already. I have been amused
by some of our clients who won't use Linux because 'it isn't supported'
and pay hefty licensing and support for Windows. I'm not sure any of them
have ever used Microsoft support or would know how to open a ticket but
they sleep better.

Red Hat has been doing that for a long time. Suse too I believe.

A few companies freeloading off decades of work by unpaid FOSS hobbyist
developers isn't anything to be proud of.

WHAT???!!!??? You mean that there are MULTIPLE companies offering Linux
support to choose from, not just ONE???!!!??? That there is actually a
competitive market, with no equivalent to the Microsoft monopoly on the
Windows side???!!!???

Strange?? Elsewhere we hear angry claims about big companies like Red Hat
somehow forcing their ideas (like systemd) onto other Linux distros? And
here you are claiming quite the opposite???!!!???

You only hear that from the hysterical weirdo Feeb Russell.

You're not making sense. Stick to the Subject: extremely overpriced
Linux support from a greedy company.

Also, to quote you from above: "???!!!??????!!!??????!!!?????????!!!???"

Stuck keys? Or too much fancy NZ beer?

I don’t think you can even get on the bottom rung for a comparable amount
of money.

When I looked at AWS pricing a generic Linux instance was the least
expensive, followed by RHEL.

https://calculator.aws/#/createCalculator/ec2-enhancement?
refid=ec2_landing

There are more options than a Chinese menu but for example a m4.large
generic Linux instance is 36.28 / month and Windows Server is 103.44 /
month. Throw in SQL Server Standard and you're looking at 453.84 / month.

An m4.large is 2 CPUs and 8GB of memory, moderate netwrork performance so
it isn't particularly hot. Depending on the work load you might get by
with a m4.large with Linux but need m4.xlarge for a Windows setup.

IT handles our site licenses so I don't know the details. I was only
tasked with looking at the costs of going to the cloud. If you don't know
what you're doing you can drop a lot of money. I did not look at Azure but
I believe MS products are a little less expensive in the MS cload,
surprise.

We went down this road months ago. Desktop Linux is a minority choice but
the web runs on Linux. Well, except for the part that isn't running too
well at the moment.

No. We were looking at a cloud solution but at the moment all clients are
running on premises servers. For the map application basemaps and the JS
libraries are pulled in from the Esri CDN but afaik that is up. I haven't
gotten any urgent emails or slacks. Esri did go down a few years ago when
the AWS east coast node bit the dust. The mothership might be in
California but the eastern AWS region is a little cheaper. Supposedly
things would fail over to another region but that didn't go well.

Public safety in the cloud has additional problems. By its nature it tends
to collect criminal justice information, medical information covereed by
HIPAA, and other good stuff so you can't run on the Mom & Pop Cloud
Service.

Did you really just admit that you jumped into this without getting your
facts straight, and that you know you’re going to lose this argument?

'jumped into this'? I started the thread.

The ONLY fact we know is Ubuntu charges a truly obscene amount of money
to support their software, most of which was freeloaded from naive
developers in the first place.

It's a seedy racket.

When you find out what MS charges for similar support, you get back to
me. You heah?

Which is actually a) quite competitive with other Linux vendors, and b)
leaves Microsoft in the dust.

And c) you are not even obliged to pay to use their software in the first
place.

So remember, this price is “competing with free”. And there are customers
who still find it to be value for money!
