For a while, I could come in here and read about things related to Linux.

Now it's full of politics and pseudoscience.

Anybody still want to talk about Linux?

ObLinux: I saw someone in another froup ask about Linux routers. Wanted
to recommend Synology, which has the best router management interface
I've ever seen: Desktop metaphor, easy to use, works in a web browser.

I've got one of their DiskStations waiting in the wings for setup, my current
DiskStation is starting to get a bit full. (They have the same management
interface with different functions.)

$ df -h /nfs/ds

Cool, but frankly I'm satisfied with my computer as it is, very little
changes day to day. I use it because that's what I do, I'm an
Internet person. The techie stuff is not that vital.

I guess part of that reason, is that politics infests everything now,
and there are those who want to make sure that Free Software has some
political agenda. But I would prefer to just discuss the system itself.

It's kind of hard to avoid the politics these days, as compared to the
year 2000 when I first started using Linux, and there was nary a Code of
Conduct or political agenda to be seen.

My agenda is to not have to run Windows on my computer.

I only have XP installed, Windows 98SE on a retro machine, and Windows
3.11 install on a 486. Only to run old software.

Wiped it off my laptops.

I gave DFS my $200 WinPro key, because I know I will never need it
again. I have Wine, for what little Windows software I'd want to use.

Same, mostly. I like adding stuff on top, and tweaking it sometimes, but
I mostly use it for internet, drawing, and games. Sitting down to look
for something to do an idea I have is fun, though.

The cola charter is "For discussion of the benefits of Linux compared to
other operating systems."

I'm not seeing any mention of other OS's.

This?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWERKAddFv0

For some reason, the videos on the Synology website don't show much of
the interface.

How tf did you use 23TB of storage? Your porn clips and your wife's
unicorn pics are only so big.

You might just not recognize it.

Go to 8:31 in that video.

All kinds of crap on there. System backups, music, videos...including a lot
of game video, which I have obs-studio store in a minimally-compressed format.

I'm running a du -Sx now to figure out where the space is being taken up, as I
can probably purge a lot of the game video...

I'm disappointed by my ISP. It looks like I missed something great here.

Yes, 3.11 runs on a 486. That is, unfortunately, the oldest working PC
I have (I have Linux on that too). My XT is unfortunately no longer
functional. I keep them to keep DOS alive.
