Two days ago, the Ladybird Web Browser made quite a bit of news -- with
a major investment and the establishment of a new Non-Profit
organization to build a "from scratch" web browser.

Positive, non-controversial, non-political, very nerdy news.

Unfortunately, within hours of the spotlight being directed at Ladybird,
a group of activists launched an all-out-assault on the open source web
browser -- by smearing it as "Transphobic", "Mysoginistic", and (this is
absolutely not a joke) suggesting that the Ladybird developers actively
support and promote human slavery.

Hundreds of posts repeating such smears (among others) -- with one Tech
publication declaring a total boycott of Ladybird because of it.

What vile deed were the developers of Ladybird guilty of, which
necessitated such an intense response, you ask?

Excellent! Massive good will to be had if they don't cave in. I also think
that if the trans-maffia push too hard, the creator of the ladybird
project will be pushed into the opposite direction, that is, more to the
right, which should give the project protection from future infiltration

More interesting news than this nonsense actually. It was exactly a
year ago when I last tried Ladybird and, given the hype, was quite
disappointed to find that its general page rendering ability was
around equivalent to Netsurf. But compared to Netsurf it was much
more buggy and incomplete, as well as much bigger and a real pain
to build from source (which everyone is/was expected to do).

I did look closely enough (mainly to fix build failures) to see
that there was a lot of work underneath though, just not all coming
together yet (or possibly completely misdirected at ticking overly
specific boxes). This news might be a sign it's time to take another
look. But then again given how much time I wasted on the last
attempt only to never run it again...

Huh. People have complained about Mozilla/Firefox being left wing.

Seems like Ladybird might have just been trying to head off that
sort of thing. But apparantly that was enough to swing their image
the other way. I hope they know that nobody sane really cares about
the politics of programmers who developed their open-source Web
browser of choice anyway. Indeed the percentage of Web users who
even _think_ about that is sure to be even smaller than the current
usage share of Firefox.

It was not an overreaction to a small request. You accept "just this
one" request, then the next comes, and the next. This is their tactic,
start small, accuse people of being bigot for not doing this "one simple
thing", get in, ratchet up.

The moment you cave into ONE demand, things snowball. You reject them

Would not "main branch" confer the same status as the
"master" and if it was a feminist they will not insist on
"Mistress Branch". Related branched could be termed "child branches'
and perhaps "cousin branches" but if you prefer your terminology
ignore anything anyone else has to say. If people get overly
insistent on their nomenclature then dissociate yourself from
them. Well if you are not an American-African then Negro might
do but call yourself what you please but Negro or Master
are not pronouns. So many people do publish their prefered
pronouns these days. I remember a few years ago the master-slave
designation for hard drives was the big kerfuffle.

The difference is that "master" is badspeak, while "main branch"
is Newspeak, along with "main bedroom" and other silly constructions,

I remember once when I was in airport security and the guy asked if he
could look through my things. I told him, "oh, so I have a choice? If I
have a free choice, of course the answer is no".

The guy actually smiled, I saw he got it, apologized and said he had to do
it anyway since it was his job. Since I was in a good mood, I refrained
from saying that the Nazi prison guards were also just doing their jobs.

At the airport, security has no choice but to look through your stuff
but there is absolutely no reason for them to ask you to go through an
x-ray machine when they can just as easily pat you down. If ever they
ask you to step into an x-ray machine, the only answer is no, especially
if you were "randomly-selected" but you don't look like the angry,
sweating Muslim down the queue.

Ah, but they do have a choice. The choose freely to take that job, so
that is why they always will have to listen to my arguments. ;)

As for X-ray, no sir, I always take the manual way. Usually, well at
least in some airports, that has been quicker too!

I remember once in the US, I asked a security guard about it, and he
sigh and said "oh, you're one of those, come with me", and he let me
skip about 100 meter of queue, had a quick pat down, and was on my way!
