How much should a GUI cost, in terms of program size.

How much is my GUI:

[~]# ls -l /usr/bin/Xorg
-rws--x--x 1 root root 2245080 Jul 29 2023 /usr/bin/Xorg

[~]# ls -l /usr/local/bin/fvwm3
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 876552 May 1 07:13 /usr/local/bin/fvwm3

Total: 3121632 bytes or approx. 3.1 Mb.

3.1 Mb! Holy shiite!

Yes indeed. My entire GUI is supported by only 3.1 Mb of code.

Mainline distros likely can't do any more with 3.1 GIGABYTES.

I have been with XFCE since KDE 3.5, they had issues and I moved away and see no
reason to go back. I can have the same desktop on my laptop and my chromebook,
other than a different conky file. I have vertical taskbar so I can use the full

I can't remove any line from your message because each one of it is a
jewel by itself. I knew from a long time you are a clueless limited
pretended programmer. But this one, is way beyond what I could expect
from you.

I shouldn't be that surprised you never heard about libraries and
dependencies, but I am nevertheless. I'm surprised to discover you could
believe those two binaries are enough for your WM to start.

It's another proof you never managed to create your own distro because
you would have been able to learn more for it to make it work.

For the fun, you can launch « ldd /usr/bin/Xorg » and « ldd
/usr/local/bin/fvwm3 » and see what happens.

I've been playing around with Wyse terminals (5060 and 5070) running Linux.
Since the hardware is lighter (Celeron or Pentium Silver or AMD (on the
5060), all quad core) I've used Xfce instead of Cinnamon. I've gotten to
like it (especially the way Linux Mint customizes it).
