To reclaim the thread header:

Lately when UPS delivers a package they take a photo and Amazon emails it
with a delivery notice. My 4 channel KVM switch arrived today. The only
problem the photo wasn't of my frigging front door. It was a closeup but I
could get enough context to figure out whose front door it was.

Even better they hid the small parcel behind an old electric heater
carton. My neighbor might have noticed it sometime next month, maybe. Is
UPS doing DEI these days?

For him, I don't know, but for me you are wrong. With Windows, you have
to use it for everything, from the boot to the display of your
applications. With Linux, I can choose the way it boots, the way it
manages the sound, the way it displays the application. I mean, I can
change the Window Manager at will, when with Windows, you can only add
another one on top of the one provided by Windows. I'm not even sure you
can remove Edge (a few year ago, it was impossible to remove IE without
breaking your system).

For the need to provide an account to use Microsoft products, you are
clearly more dependant of Microsoft than me on my distro maker. I can
change distro anytime without changing the way I'm using Linux.

In fact thirty years ago, using Linux was very difficult to use, you
needed to do everything with the command line and a lot of other things,
while very powerful, not user friendly. Now, things have changed, you
still can use the terminal to have full power, but you can keep it
simple and avoid the terminal for a day to day use.

You can use a graphical interface to update you ubuntu/debian/whatever
based on apt manager. There are two very interesting things about the
'sudo apt install package' you don't have with graphical package
managers.

The first one is, on a website it's easier to provide you the command which
will install your package (only one line to display) and it's easier for
you to copy/past it in your terminal. With a graphical interface, you
need to have the same as the one used by the writer of the web page. And
then, you have to struggle in the menues if you need some options.

The second one, it's easy to script, or to do an alias with it, to provide
you your preferred way to install things.

I heard Windows powershell was pretty good, but I heard it was not as
good as bash.

Depends what you want to utilize in PowerShell, it has some dimensions
that are impressive but unique to it, the expansion on the NT/CMD
shell itself isn't as good as a Unix shell/bash. Then again, just to
use SSH, the Win shell isn't any different than if I were to do it
right now, there are some areas where M$ is basically identical
(including ultimately the core of the OS, but I digress).

Dobbs rewrites this, it is invalid precedent. States are
liable for denying needed abortions, e.g. TX.

I'm still wondering just what the whole issue is with Win11.
Is it merely that one is pushed into registering?

In any event, I cranked up my Win11 box yesterday and let it go through
some updates, a security scan, and to check which version of MS-Office
it currently has running (got an email for a sale on Office 2021 for $49
that was expiring at midnight).

Perhaps I should finally get back to dabbling with MS-Access again, but
in any event, its all current & ready to go if/when the mood hits me.

I was not a slave of Windows, much less Mint. That's hardly the
standard by which I compare them, since in truth there's a lot more
similarity here than not. It's computer software and fairly
controllable. When I talk independence from Microsoft I mean that
they are fundamentally different from a free and open source OS.

Unless you're putting together Linux From Scratch, you're a slave to the
distro makers. So am I (Windows is a distro).

It was through "Apple Insider" .. in looking at the email link today, it
appears that they shut down their portal this week (4 May).

It now links over to stacksocial.com ... and this MS-Office 2019 product
there is still being offered for $29.97 (both Windows & MacOS, but
slightly different flavors). Its not the latest revision (I have 2021
on my Mac), but its a one time pay instead of 365's "rental" model:

Version would be Access 2019 (as per the above bundle); plans are not
determined - its probably been a good ten years since I've done any
Access dabbling, so this is mostly "now that I have the tool again, time
to figure out what I want to try using it for today".

and the slave of the choices of the distro makers of Mint (which is not
the same as being the slave of Mint). It wasn't his words but the spirit

And you didn't deny it, you said it was best to be the slave of a
distro maker than being the slave of Microsoft. So you agreed. I

stand for my argument: being dependent on the choices made by your
