Kiara Lee, a 26-year-old Darby borough crossing guard, faces serious
charges that starkly contrast the safety and security her role represents.

Check out this ugly dude.

https://icecreamconvos.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/delco-crossing-
guard-kiara-lee-arrested-500x315.jpg

Authorities allege that Lee distributed electronic cigarettes and
marijuana-infused substances to Penn Wood Middle School students,
shattering the trust placed in her by the community.

The allegations came to light when a vigilant student reported that Lee
had provided vapes multiple times and frequently smoked marijuana with
another student.

This alarming claim was corroborated by the students guardian, who
confirmed that Lee had given her child vapes and marijuana edibles.

Text messages between Lee and the student, detailing their experiences
after consuming the edibles, further substantiated these accusations.

Delaware County District Attorney Stollsteimer expressed the profound
betrayal felt by the community:

School crossing guards epitomize the role of public servants.

They are quite literally entrusted with the lives of our children and
hold a position of sacred trust in communities across the Commonwealth and
the country.

For an individual to abuse that trust is deeply disturbing, and corrosive
to the well-being of the entire community.

Lee now faces charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver
and corruption of minors.

The local community, already grappling with the challenges of safeguarding
their children from negative influences, was left reeling from the news.

Maya Bryant, a concerned parent, voiced her frustration and disbelief:

Its already bad enough as a parent, keeping them away from influences,
but to hear that an employee of the borough would even sell to kids. Its
insane.

Malekka Dade echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the deep sense of
betrayal:

Its a shame to have these people on these corners to do their job, to
protect children and now youre telling me the kids are receiving drugs
from them? Its utterly disgusting.

In response to the allegations, the Borough of Darby swiftly placed Kiara
Lee on administrative suspension and banned her from all borough
facilities.

Late Wednesday, the Borough released a statement:

The Council of the Borough of Darby is deeply disturbed by the allegations
contained in the Affidavit of Probable Cause related to Ms. Kiara Lee.

We have placed Ms. Lee on administrative suspension and banned her from
our facilities pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

We are grateful for the men and women of the Darby Borough Police
Department for their hard work in making sure our community is safe.

Watch the local news report below.

This disturbing incident underscores the importance of vigilance and
community trust.

As the investigation continues, the community remains united in their
commitment to safeguarding their children and holding those in positions
of trust accountable.

She's actually not bad looking. What she is alleged to have done,
though, is rather serious.

These kids seem awfully obsessed with "trannies". I think a psychologist
would really like to look inside their heads. (Yours too :-))

I'm pretty crazy, but psychology doesn't have anything capable of
dealing with me. I don't even have to see my psychiatrist at Kaiser
the once a year, anymore, he told me they'd just automatically renew
my Zyprexa/olanzapine prescription.

A couple of weeks ago I took a walk up the road. Along the way I passed a
push lawnmower with a 'Free' sign on it. That's not uncommon around here;
people tend to put serviceable items they don't want out along the road. I
didn't pay much attention.

On the way back I noticed it had bottles sitting on it and was curious
enough to cross the road to see what they were. Six bottles of Bud Light.
I'm not sure if it was a political statement but that's a hell of a deal
-- a lawnmower and a six pack to drink while you're mowing the lawn.

lol, could one get an open container violation, if it's a mower? Well,
I guess there's no traffic on your own lawn. ;)

I recommend the movie. It's one of David Lynch's saner films.

Spoiler: Alvin loves deer too. The scene resonates around here. Even the
city is overrun by whitetails.

Trust me, when a doe and her fawns stroll through the yard I can identify
the species. There are muleys on Mt Sentinel that occasionally drift into
the university area but the bulk are whitetails.

Doggies don't have antlers, silly. Stick to the urban environment. Around
here you'd try to pet the really big brown doggies with shitty
dispositions.

White tails and mule deer even move differently.

What's really weird (to me anyhow) is that mule deer are basically the same
size throughout their range, whereas white tails are tiny in Florida and
huge in Canada (get bigger as you go further north). If I remember right, in
Montana white tails and mulies are pretty much the same size (maybe the
mulies are a little bigger). I always considered white tails "graceful"
leapers where mule deer looked like they were on pogo sticks when they ran.

After Daniel Dennet died in April I read his last book, 'From Bacteria to
Bach and Back'. Of anyone thinks I'm discursive they've never read Dennet.
He spent a few pages on a discussion stotting. It seems like a bad waste
of energy but works if the wolves look at the guy on pogo sticks and
decide to go for a less energetic meal. It works like the fool hen's
broken wing trick that always sucks dogs in. I saw a similar ploy a
couple of weeks ago. I was coming down a trail and little sparrow sized
birds would run down the trail in front of me, stopping to let me catch
up, but always staying about ten feet in front. If I charged they'd run
faster but maintain the distance. I assume when i got far enough from the
nest they'd say 'Seeya, sucker' and fly away. The trail had several
switchbacks so I'm not sure if it was the same bird or if they took turns.

"Stotting." Never heard the term, that's interesting.

So the sparrows were doing their variation of the killdeer trick (or a
"fool's hen" trick — unless that's another name for a killdeer). In Texas
when I was leaving from work one evening, crows were picking on a baby
killdeer, so I saved it from them and I couldn't find its parents so I took
it home. I played some killdeer sounds on the computer and that little thing
could do all the sounds already. It was pitiful. I told my wife, I've got to
try to find its mother and went back to work with her and the kids, and
fortunately found the parents. They started "talking" across the parking lot
immediately.

But that's another thing that I don't completely understand. Some birds are
born as absolutely helpless blobs and others, like the killdeer, pop out of
the egg and within minutes (it seems) they're chasing down bugs and acting
exactly like miniature versions of their parents. It's like they don't have
to learn anything except how to grow (or stay away from crows, if they can).

I've always had a soft spot for killdeers — or is it "killdeer?"

I don't think they are actually sparrows but they're about that size. I'm
not much of a birder when it comes the the LGBs. (little grey birds, not
some pride month agronym)

It's another distraction technique called the 'rodent run'. They pretend
to be a mouse scurrying down the trail. They've got the act down pat and
let you think you're going to catch them at any moment. If you slow down,
they also slow, speed up, and they speed up. It's amusing if you have a
couple more IQ points than the average black lab.

'Fool hens' are Spruce Grouse.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spruce_grouse

Unless they're trying to lead you away from a nest they quietly sit and
hope you don't notice them. It's not the greatest strategy. Not my finest
moment but I saw one one a branch and took out my pack gun, a .38 snubbie.
It was loaded with hollow points so I reloaded with lead hand loads, not
wanting to waste factory ammunition. Then I shot the bird that had been
observing this entire process. After you get the feathers off there isn't
much left.

Another distraction behavior I wandered into involved goshawks. No broken
wings there, they dive bomb you coming close enough to hit you with a
wing. I got the hell out of their territory as fast as possible. That's
when I saw the sign on the trail saying it was closed due to the breeding
hawks. I'd come the long way around and they'd only signed the end closest
to the trailhead. Since then I avoid the area during the breeding season
just in case.

"Sparrows" was just easier to write than "birds who were about the size of
sparrows."

I've never seen this, but wouldn't mind seeing it some day.

I should have looked them up. It's doubtful a killdeer would be confused
with a hen. But killdeers are the only birds I've seen do the "broken wing"
thing. When I lived on the side of a hill outside of Kalispell, we used to
walk up into the trees (instead of going to school) and every now and then a
Ruffed Grouse would explode under our feet. Talk about being startled.

At this point in my life, unless I needed the meat, I would never kill most
any creature any more. The idea of hunting "for sport" no longer has any
appeal to me — it hasn't for years. When I lived in Texas, a guy at work
showed me his deer stand (and feed trough). He had a camera on them, so he
could watch his half-sized White Tails eating his Purina Deer Chow. Come
hunting season he could go out and shoot one of his pet deer. Just seemed
completely wrong to me. That's not hunting.

I can understand avoiding them. There was a similar situation where my
brother worked as an onsite PBX tech in Lexington, Kentucky (at, I think,
the Marathon Oil headquarters — or at least a regional office). Canadian
Geese built nests above the main entrance and they would sometimes dive bomb
people trying to go into the building. Not exactly a hawk, but they're big
birds.

Weird thing about Canadian Geese is that, when I lived in Montana, basically
the only time I saw them was when they were migrating either north or south
and they formed honking V's way up in the air. But, when I moved to Texas
(and when I worked in the Washington, D.C. for awhile) they were year-round
"residents" (or, since, they're "Canadian", illegal aliens). Every
irrigation pond in the Boise area has Canadian Geese (as well as Mallard
Ducks). There's so many of them that they're kind of a nuisance (same as
they are back east). I like the Mallards, the geese are a little aggressive
sometimes. But I enjoy watching both, especially in the spring when the
babies are hatching.

missoula-ballfield

That's the one that gets coverage but other osprey nests get seized by
geese too. I've never caught the act but at some point the goose kicks the
goslings out of the nest, which is on top of a power pole. The goslings
bounce a couple of times and the family waddles off to the river. I
suppose they lose a few goslings.

Depending on the weather sometimes the geese and ospreys timeshare with
the geese gone by the time the osprey get back from California. Otherwise
the nests deteriorate since geese aren't big on home improvements until
it's a bare platform that the osprey reclaim and build a new nest.

I miss the ducks I used to see when I took a walk during lunch. They lived
in an irrigation ditch but the city bought it and turned it off. Most of
the land that had been irrigated by it is being developed. It's ugly now,
just a dry ditch running along the sidewalk slowly being reclaimed by
weeds.

I'm living in what was farm land 20 (or so) years ago. In Idaho they keep
the irrigation ponds ditches open when they develop land and (in the summer)
you water your yards or gardens with irrigation water (at about $20 a year,
I think). All the houses have two water systems, city water and irrigation
water. It's too bad Missoula didn't implement something like that when your
farm land was "developed."

(Reading the article I see they were concerned about the level of the river,
but doesn't the irrigation feed back into the river anyhow?)

As for the geese taking over osprey nests, that's kind of irritating. When
I was a kid in Maryland our dad used to have us shoot English Starlings
because he said they were chasing out all the song birds. I don't know if he
was right or not — I sometimes suspect the starlings got a bum rap.

I don't think I've ever seen an osprey in real life — or, if I did, I
probably thought it was a hawk.

When my brother lived in Ogden it was the same deal. There still is a maze
of ditches that are more or less in use. Some ditches and creeks have been
routed into culverts so trying to figure out where they start and end can
be difficult but I don't think the majority of residences use ditch
water, The aquifer is about 25' down in most places so they're either on
city water or a private well.

That does seem odd. The ditch I'm on feeds back down the road. The place
just before that was abandoned/unused for years meaning nobody ever
cleaned the debris from the culvert under the driveway. That would back
the ditch up enough to flood a blind 25 mph curve to add some excitement.

I'm close enough to the river so there are several osprey nests. I once
found a fish in the yard that I assumed was a little too much for the bird
and it had jettisoned the cargo. They're fish hawks so the guys hovering
around the pasture looking for ground squirrels are hawks or eagles.
