Actually, since unemployment is below the textbook definition of "Full"
employment, we do need more, because worker shortages hinders growth.

And to put a big round number on it, at one percentage point under Full
times the current workforce size (168M), it means that we have capacity
for 1.68 million new workers right now.

To put this into perspective, the total US immigration quota is
675,000/year, so we have at least a 2.5 year immigration backlog
shortfall need.

And most of the time it isn't. But its legal for them to stay in the US
(and work) while their waiting for their day in court; current backlog
is IIRC ~4 years.

But the problem is that the work visa has a quota limit, and there's
more applicants than visa slots. The USA's high demand for workers
rewards those who circumvent the system and work under the table...

....and we allow this to happen, by not punishing the US employers.

If its such a small price to pay, make their current employer pay for it.

Or better yet, make them pay a fine equal to the cost and waive the need
for the worker to go on an airline flight: free government revenue to

So why not revamp it then by avoiding the above performative art of
