What is it with these Windows 10 users so hard up to “upgrade” to
Windows 11? Do they really believe they are missing out on something?
Do they think their ongoing dissatisfaction with their OS can be
remedied, if only they go up just one more version?

It was amusing to read this report

about the ongoing attempts to come up with hacks to get around
Microsoft’s restrictions on “unsupported” machines upgrading. The best
thing the writer could find to say about Windows 11 was

... but aside from that, Windows 11 usually runs about as well on
these PCs as Windows 10 did.

People who know use Linux, or they pay to chase meeting M$'s hardware
requirements and they keep using Winblows, or they even put up with
running cumulative updates on a Win10 box with no SSD..

There's a Windows executable already built. I downloaded and installed
it in about 1 minute.

Whatever he did to run it is impressive, I give him, but the notion
that you would have to have Windows because of some incredible app is
only true for things you really can't live without, that could exist
in the Unix world too, things you'd give up by using Windows.

In context he's writing about PCs that don't meet the update requirements
but have Windows 11 installed anyhow. He writes that, "of course support for
these machines could be pulled at any time." So I'm not sure what point this
writer was trying to make here.

On Windows 11, GIMP and QtCreator (for example), are notably slower than
on Linux on the same computer.

Feeb already had the Qt libraries installed. You might or might not.

Edit: distrowatch shows Mint includes an older version of Qt by default.

My point isn't that you have to have Windows. My point is to see what
happens when a cola Linux advocate is forced to compile an app from source.
