Only during certain periods. And we didn't give them "asylum", welfare, or
"pathways to citizenship".

The issues are dealt with in the House which *is* population proportionate. Each
State gets two Senators and the People get a rep for about every 700k. What's
the point of two Houses if both are constructed the same way? Even the Brits
have Commons and Lords.

I still say the *real* issue is the winner take all systems in the states.

You keep complaining about the structure of the Senate, one of two Houses,
without specifying that it is only the Senate with which you have issue. This
make be the source of my confusion. You don't have any problem with the House
structure?

It would be if the Democrats weren't so good at snatching defeat from the jaws
of victory?

Why isn't Harris taking credit for the sharp drop in new illegals?

That's just one of many issues she isn't handling within the campaign. Another
should be, if you liked Obamacare that survived the Republicans' attempts to
erase them (enumerate them), then why wouldn't you vote for Democrats to do more
of the same? She can't depend on abortion alone, to do it. She should be
beating Republicans' over the head with EVERY single unpopular choice they have
made. She should be haunting them with 1929 and 2008 while giving Obama credit
for economic recovery that was complete and happened in less that fifteen years
and without a major global war to get us out of it.

The Democrats don't seem to even remember the great things they've done over the
past century and another score years.

Close enough, don't you think? Another six hundred thousand new Iowans and that
ratio will be virtually 0/0.

Two more reasons to not vote for Trump in 11 days.

59) Trump repeatedly suggested he might serve more than
two terms in violation of the Constitution. And continues
to do so! (Trump: "We may have to go for an extra term."

60) Trump called Haiti and African nations "sh*thole countries."

Trump doesn't throw out hecklers. He invites them onstage and politely solicits
their opposing views. /S

Reduced economic activity with general deflation is by definition, economic
depression. We were in depression briefly in early 2009 when the Great
Recession was at its worst.

Either Trump is dumb as a stump in economics, or he really wants to tank
America's economy, because there's a good chance his policies will do just
that.

Not in contention. But I think the Senate and the Electoral College end up
causing harm, for the reasons I have stated. I back more equal representation,
not just in the House but in general. I do know the system will not change to

I have no real issue with that. Actually happy to see it being that close... I
thought there as a bigger discrepancy. I do not like how in some cases, such
as section of a president if there is no majority, it is NOT based on one
person in the house = one vote, but based on states getting votes. Again: I
have no thought that this will change.

I think we would be better off with more equal representation of people. We
are not gonna get it. That is really all my point was. I have backed it by
noting how polls show people, as a whole, want things I think would be
beneficial and make America better. Also have noted what I see as the
injustice of having those with the least representation tending to give the
most into the system, and those with far more representation getting the tons
of support from the system. I think it goes against the spirit of "No taxation
without representing". That is pretty much the extent of my views.

Yup, immigrants contribute to US society here too.

Yes, that would have been a wise way to approach it IMO, although I'm
sure that the US corporations who've been offshoring would've been
opposing it tooth & nail. The challenge today would be how to phase in
such a policy without causing too significant of an economic disruption.

There weren't any blackout periods; what you're probably referring to is
the seasonal migration of farm workers., for they classically went back
home to be with family in the winter & came back north in the spring.

They did have a pathway to citizenship until the 1965 Immigration and
Nationality Act.

For asylum, the USA's refugee laws changed in 1981 and have been the law
of the land for the past ~45 years. The flaw in them .. if it actually
is a flaw .. is that the lack of adequate resources for the courts has
caused a huge case backlog .. IIRC, 3-5 years.

There's been racist factors in the US immigration laws for longer than
that, and that xenophobia continues to this day, as illustrated by how
97% of the population are immigrants or descendants there of but have
been enacting "pull up the ladder behind us" policies, such that the
average "come in legally" wait time for Citizenship is now 10 years.

Plus this wait time also varies by the country of origin, with some wait
times now being 25+ years. In the meantime, or birth rate is below
replacement rate, so unless we force US women to give birth to more
babies or create huge social incentives to do the same, we need to
increase (legal) immigration in order to maintain the US economy:
choose carefully.

Trump only needs to be 1 IQ point higher than his supporters. /s

But overall, I think that this cycle is illustrating just how poor the
general public's financial education is, as he's convinced folk to vote
against their own financial best interests. This is probably because it
is being cross-multiplied by other factors, such as xenophobia, as well
as the breakdown of societal norms where personal self-serving interests
(greed) have become more prominent as well, which has been the fault of
US corporations who screwed over their rank and file workers for higher
near term profits, by failing to recognize or value that the inevitable
longer term backlash is an erosion and loss of employee support of the
company in return: TL;DR: every worker is out for themself, and will
prioritize themself over their employer, because the employer has proven
themselves to not be worthy of deference or trust.

Why not offer a reply to this instead of lying about the competitor?

Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. They cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel somehow superior by attacking the messenger.

They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again.

Why not offer a reply to this instead of lying about the competitor?

Two more reasons to not vote for Trump in 11 days.

59) Trump repeatedly suggested he might serve more than
two terms in violation of the Constitution. And continues
to do so! (Trump: "We may have to go for an extra term."

60) Trump called Haiti and African nations "sh*thole countries."

An all popular vote legislature would be too volatile and too closely follow the
current populist political fashions. The rules governing the Senate and
Executive branches slow change enough to make sure it is deliberate, not just
running with the current flow.

Governing by the poll-of-the-moment is guaranteed to screw things up.

Do a bit of reading back on legislation passed by the House that didn't get
through the Senate. Very enlightening.

How would it make it more volatile?

You can have safeguards... needing 60% or something of that nature. Right now
we can have the whim of, say, cult like group such as Trump supporters thwart
the will of the people as a whole.

The pattern is that Republicans win by manipulating emotions over controversial
issues like flag burning, gay marriage and abortion. Invariably they will break
the economy and the populace will replace them with Dems. Once the Dems have
fixed the economy so Joe Blow doesn't have to worry about where his next meal is
coming from, he can go back to worrying about abortion and those two guys across
the hall sharing a one bedroom apt.
