Your timing results are quite interesting:

Suggests that the user space processes are consuming a significant
amount of CPU time, which might be expected depending on the workload
you’re running.

Those are the times for building the Linux source tree, which spends
most of its time running gcc.

It's a lot to compile -- I build a "kitchen sink" kernel -- but
"make -j64" does it in about six and a half minutes of
wall-clock time.

Linux kernel numbering:
x.y.z.
x is the major release
y is the minor revision
z is the patch number

So long term kernel 4.19.322 went thru a LOT of minor revisions and
patches before it was released.

Patch 322 alone had 97 commits. So possibly 10s of thousands of commits
between minor revisions.

linux-4.19.1.tar.gz 04-Nov-2018 13:57 152M
linux-4.19.322.tar.gz 12-Sep-2024 09:08 152M

How's that same size possible, with all that new code (not all commits
are added code obviously, so there must have been a LOT of fixes)?

This! Is! Linux!

It's a good thing to know that on Linux the bugs are fixed. Microsoft
should be inspired.

In Open Source, once bugs are fixed, they tend to stay fixed.

So that’s another hurdle for Microsoft to face.

I assume you're aware of:

https://elixir.free-electrons.com

Sure would be nice to be able to browse the Windows 11 source code.

Not a pretty sight.

Yes, there have been leaks of Windows source code before.

You follow this stuff, and you KNOW the public reviews of the MS source
are positive. And there are no doubt hacks galore to deal with legacy
apps; that's what happens when you maintain backward compatibility as
well as MS does.

So quit babbling like Feeb.

Win2K. I have it.
