I paid $200 USD for retail Pro, in 2021, from microsoft.com. Home
there is $139, last I checked. But for a Dell in the U.S., you're
paying at most $50 I believe for Home. I am not surprised it's more

Yeah, but their office suite isn't anything that special, a lot of
people with Macs are paying for Microsoft Office. I liked the Mac
version of it, in fact, oddly enough. I hate the Winblows version.

Olive is just another GUI front end to ffmpeg and a lot of other stuff
like libtiff, libjpeg, libpng, etc., etc.

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, but I am saying that we must be aware
of exactly what is going on behind the GUI glitz.

The majority of the credit goes to ffmpeg and all the others. Olive
and its cousins just wrap it all in a more-or-less useful GUI.

Don't obviate my point. LO is shockingly bad and falling increasingly

Mostly because it's what everyone thinks they need. For home users Apple's
software plenty good enough, like LO ( but better).

In business/work MS office is a necessity.

MacOS powerpoint is an excellent piece of software.

You might not be able to upgrade on the same machine, true, but your
license would work on a new machine if you have the product key (ones
from Win7/8.x that have been activated with Win10, along with 10 keys,
will activate 11).

Admittedly, Microsoft Office does sell their and Apple's OSes, and
it's a real limitation of the Linux et al platform, but to me LO is
what I prefer, so there was never a plus to using Windows in that
specific regard.

I didn't see a strong resemblance between the macOS/OS X version and
the Windows version. Same basic purposes, but not really alike in
implementation.
